Vehicle Description
All you have to do is take one look at our Sold Inventory page to
confirm that tri-five Chevys are some of the most popular and
in-demand collector cars on the planet. Factory-correct tri-fives,
especially '57 convertibles, tend to leave our RK Motors Charlotte
showroom almost as fast as they arrive. And if you want a
chrome-laden showboat that's great for garage parties and Saturday
afternoon parking lots, a car like that is all well and good. But
what about enthusiasts who demand more? Combining a roster of
choice mods with one of the best automotive designs ever produced,
this 998-point Bel Air is a top-notch resto-mod that puts a fresh
spin on an old favorite. Best of all, you can have all this old
school MoTown swagger AND upgraded mechanicals for significantly
less than the cost of one of those restored-to-original concours
convertibles!
SOPHISTICATED HOT ROD
Wearing timeless Chevrolet lines that are draped in a tasteful
combination of Metallic Silver and Metallic Charcoal Sikkens, this
fully sorted Bel Air has spent almost 40 years in the care of one
meticulous enthusiast. Those decades began circa 1983 when the car,
always a solid driver, was purchased as a rust-free west coast gem.
Over the years, the enthusiast, who eventually became an appraiser
and tri-five Senior Master Judge, followed steady mechanical
upgrades with a ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration. And today,
this slick resto-mod is right at home turning heads on the road OR
logging points at the show!
Not surprisingly, this Chevy's dynamic pigment creates a fabulous
foundation for a select array of stylistic add-ons. At the front of
the car, a guarded bumper frames a polished grille, bowtie-branded
parking lamps and traditional, stainless-trimmed headlights. At the
top of that grille, a Chevrolet-branded hood teases trick flames
between a short antenna, polished RainGear wipers and a polished
Jet Bird. Those blades clear tinted glass, which rides behind
polished mirrors, traditional door handles and polished frames. At
the base of that glass, a silky profile centers requisite Speed
Spears between classy "Bel Air" quarter scripts and more sick
flames. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper splits
the difference between a crisp trunk crest and 1956-exclusive
taillights.
DUAL-QUAD ZZ383
Check this sedan's massaged engine bay and you'll find 383 cubic
inches of hot GM Performance Parts stroker that creates a solid 425
horsepower right out of the box! At the top of the mighty mill, a
polished K&N air filter funnels wind through not one, but two
coated Edelbrock carburetors. Those 4-barrels feed a polished
Edelbrock intake, which floats between aluminum GM Fast Burn heads.
Those heads tilt chromed valve covers between chromed breathers and
a requisite hydraulic roller cam. A forged 4340 crank, powdered
connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons create stout compression.
Reliable MSD ignition sparks choice Mallory Pro Wires. The buff
engine funnels spent gases through coated, long-tube headers.
There's a polished Griffin radiator that's slid between a polished
fluid reservoir and a spry SPAL puller fan. A polished Vintage Air
Front Runner serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite
a polished AC compressor. And polished hood supports join trick
dipsticks, stainless fluid lines and a quality Lokar throttle
linkage to detail otherwise purpose-built performance.
POLISHED POISE
Not surprisingly, the bottom of this award-winning tri-five
continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced
technology. Behind the stroked small block, a smooth shifting
Turbo-Hydramatic 200 4-speed, dressed in a deep Hughes pan, sends
thrust to a proven Ford 9-inch that's equipped with easy, 3.00
gears. That driveline hangs in an Art Morrison GT-Sport chassis
that, in addition to being fitted with beefy sway bars, chromed
control arms and adjustable Strange coil-overs, has been
professionally powder-coated to match the car's body. Turns come
courtesy of AGR power rack-and-pinion steering. Speed gets scrubbed
by four polished calipers, which bridge the gap between a Wilwood
proportioning valve, a polished SSBC master cylinder and four
drilled and slotted rotors. 2.5-inch Jet Hot-coated pipes funnel
spent gases through deep Xlerator mufflers. All that reliable
hardware rolls on polished Billet Specialties Vintecs, which spin
235/45ZR17 Continental ExtremeContact Sports in front of 255/45ZR17
Continental ExtremeContact Sports. And quality details like a
polished driveshaft and a polished stainless fuel tank ensure this
classic bowtie is ready for years of carefree cruising.
CUSTOM COOL
Inside this Chevy, two-tone English Leather is the central theme of
a custom cockpit that was built for both style and comfort. Broad
bench seats ride custom wool carpet that's a great contrast to
billet foot pedals. Sculpted side panels seat billet handles in
front of modern power windows. At the front of the cockpit, a
pinstriped dash hangs a polished billet faade between custom
telemetry and cool Vintage Air climate control. American Autowire
Factory Fit wiring juices a Custom Autosound head unit that's
sequenced to a 10-disc CD changer. The driver stays connected
through a stylish Lecarra steering wheel, which spins a
leather-wrapped rim around a tilting Flaming River column. And the
passengers carry their essentials in a custom-upholstered
trunk.
What started out as America's first low-priced hardtop has now
become a legend. And today, the tri-five Chevy is one of the most
exclusive and highly-sought collector cars of all time. If you've
been searching for a top-notch Bel Air custom that's as much fun to
drive as it is to show, this cool sedan's attractive combination of
great performance and classic style simply can't be beat!
