Vehicle Description
2001 Bentley Arnage Red Label
This is the story of where you're invited to suspend your disbelief
and imagine yourself the custodian of a 20-year-old, luxury sports
saloon powered by a ruinously thirsty V8. A car that cost over
£140,000 new and which can be had for a fraction of the original
price.
For consignment a slice of how the other half lives for the price
of a new SUV. Yes, this is the Bentley Arnage Red Label meaning it
has the impressive 6.75 Liter Turbocharged V8, an impressive array
of custom trimmings including custom embroidered seats, and plenty
of burl trim to go around. Plenty of beautiful exterior lines, and
all allowing one to truly arrive in style.
Exterior
Just looking closely at the exterior one can see the hand-built
quality in the sturdiness of the steel panels. Fit and finish is
presentable with some dings noted on the flat horizontal surfaces,
trim, all be it used sparingly, is all mirror like and shiny, and
surrounded by Magnolia exterior color. This is a big car and offers
plenty of space for the passengers, and their luggage, although in
the trunk there is an added a 12-inch bass cabinet that helps the
aftermarket sound system blast forward. The remainder of the
bodywork utilizes round styling, integrated lights and bumpers, and
chromed trim surrounding all the glass. Big 20-inch wheels help
contribute to the ultra-smooth ride that does not disappoint on the
performance front.
Interior
All the interior styling is heavy with large leather stitched door
pulls, which melt together with Linen leather covered molded
oversize panels, and burl sills and panels. Inside this motif
continues with rounded corners simple gauges and plenty of
convenience controls right at your fingertips. More linen colored
leather covers the large comfortable front seats, which have a
leather Dove colored insert and piping, and a smattering of burl
near the seat controls. The center console is making heavy use of
the burl and has all the window and seat controls and the burl
topped gear shift lever within its confines. The rear bench
utilizes the same colors and patterns as the front and is uber
comfortable to sit in with miles of interior foot room, covered by
miles of clean Linen colored carpet. A sunroof is noted up top, and
some nice mixture of digital readouts and analog gauges with white
faces sit proudly within the beautiful burl.
Drivetrain
6.75 liters provide plenty of power to glide this large automobile
down the road. A turbocharger is also added, and this allows for
400hp. EFI and a 4-speed automatic 4L80E transmission push power
rearward to a 2.69 rear axle. The engine bay is nice and clean with
just a bit of overall patina seen with graceful aging.
Undercarriage
Virtually no rust with strong unibody construction, good floorpans
and wheel wells, and a massive exhaust snaking its way to the rear
of the car. Nicely kept independent suspension is all around as
well as power disc brakes on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
We had the opportunity to go off track and I played chauffeur to a
duo of my colleagues to go to lunch. This is definitely a head
turner, has lots of power, and it was difficult to check off all
the convenience boxes as to workability, but the ones we played
with all were functional. It had wonderful acceleration and a very
smooth ride. I was taken a little aback as to the volume witnessed
of the sound of the engine, but then again, its large and
turbocharged and this may lead to some of the engine sound.
An Arnage Red Label aptly named due to Arnage meaning it is a
limousine but can out-gun most sports cars. This one presents in
good condition, with plenty of conveniences, beautifully appointed
interior, and loads of extra power. Truly an example of how high
society gets around in style.
