For a quick refresher on how evolution works, look no further than
the Ford Mustang. Each generation gets more powerful, more capable,
and more comfortable, all to keep up with the Bowties across town.
This 2014 Ford Mustang Saleen 302 Yellow Label is a beautifully
preserved, unmodified limited-edition specimen, but don't for a
minute think that it's a pushover. Not with 625 horsepower on tap,
it's not.
There's nothing cooler than bright Oxford White paint on a Mustang
and it's is an excellent choice on your 625 horsepower,
supercharged Saleen Mustang. Elegant, pure, and unadorned, it lets
the horsepower do all the talking. The all-new Mustang bodywork
retains the classic look and there's no question that this one has
Ford Blue blood running through its veins, although the Saleen
add-ons like the grille, downforce rear wing, and decals make it
look even sleeker than before. Obviously, it's always been a
fair-weather toy and not a daily driver, and with a miniscule 8,752
miles on the clock, it still looks virtually new and we're guessing
that this car enjoyed being babied almost every weekend. The finish
is spectacular, far better than you'd expect for a mass-produced
pony car, and the Saleen upgrades do make the all-new Mustang look
longer, lower, and yes, nastier. You'd be a fool to mess with this
car on the street.
Ford gave the Mustang big upgrades inside, starting with
ultra-supportive leather bucket seats that are only a few steps
away from being labeled exotic. The horizontal pleats in the
inserts are definitely a nod to the past, and the Saleen embroidery
on the headrests let's everyone know this is no stocker, but
everything else is state-of-the-art in modern Pony car performance.
There's almost zero wear on any of the seating surfaces and just a
few incredibly minor creases from someone sitting behind the wheel,
but they're easy to miss. Everything else is as-new and fully
operational. The gauges are retro-style but high-tech, with the
computer screen between them so you can select trip functions or
seat the car up just the way you want it. There's a ripping shifter
for the 6-speed manual transmission in the center console that's
pure modern cool and the big trunk is surprisingly functional for a
car whose primary mission is speed. And this car is so fresh, even
the Saleen Yellow label on the glove compartment door looks like it
was just applied.
The 302 DOHC 4-Valve V8 topped with the Saleen Twin-Screw
supercharger has everything Saleen knows about horsepower packed
into it. In the day of 700+ horsepower Dodge Hellcats and gigantic
horsepower Camaros, it's the only proper response. The big
supercharger sits on top, funny car style, and force-feeds the
high-tech powerplant enough boost to make 625 horsepower and 550
pounds of torque. It is not modified and hasn't been raced, so no
worries about a track dog or a car that's been thrashed, and it has
obviously been well-maintained. And there's no reason to think that
all this Mustang can do is beat people up red light-to-red light,
because with that 6-speed manual transmission, it can be rather
tame and easy to drive as well. Underneath, there's a Saleen
Signature Series S1 high-performance suspension and barking
high-performance exhaust system, and they work to elevate the
Mustang's performance significantly. Giant disc brakes give it
plenty of stopping power for the engine's performance and the
grippy Cooper radials on optional 5-spoke chrome wheels do their
best to hook it all up.
Always exclusive and always fast, this limited edition Saleen
delivers more of everything that makes the Mustang great.
Beautifully preserved and unmodified since it left the Saleen
facility, this is the one to keep for posterity. Call now!
