Very well restored 13 window Series 1 transporter. The vintage VW
buses took the collector car market by storm a few years ago with
several selling well into the 6 figure range at auction. It was no
fluke, still today they are highly desirable and some hitting
$200,000. Yes, they made lots and lots of them, but most were work
horses driven until they died or rotted away. They are so popular
today because so many people can relate to them. They have their
own sub culture in the collector car world.
EXTERIOR: Last year of the "V" design front end. Known as a 13
window for obvious reason. It is also decked out with a roof rack
and a rare original ladder that was restored. Very cute looking in
two tone red and white. The body and paint were professionally
restored. It's smooth all over, even at the corners and along the
bottoms. Panels fit real nice. Very nice quality paint job, it's
buffed very smooth and glossy. Jambs are painted slick. The bumpers
were painted just as glossy. Exterior trim has been replaced
including the antenna, turn signal and headlight units, mirrors,
handles and taillights. The rims were repainted and the hubcaps
look new. The tires look new. All the glass looks like it's in
excellent shape. I think they replaced all the rubber gaskets and
weatherstrips. The rear hatch opens to a storage shelf.
INTERIOR: This one has the pass through seating. Upfront there is
an aisle between the seats, 2nd row is a narrower 2 seater, 3rd row
is a full bench. No need to climb over seats. It's in great shape
inside. All the metal has been painted white like the outside. The
seats have firm cushion and are all upholstered to match in vintage
material. The side panels look new and match the seats. The
headliner is all new white perforated material, new visors. There
are seat belts for the front. New rubber mats on the floor.
Everything looks new- rear deck panel, tire cover, firewall panel,
rubber under the seats, even the screws. It has the overhead
ventilator that allows air to come in from outside just above the
windshield and through vent on ceiling.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It looks detailed. 1200 cc- 40 hp, 4 cylinder.
The motor and all the components look new. It must be freshly
restored. There is some extra chrome trim. The distributor and
carburetor look new. It looks complete and proper, the heat tubes
are hooked up. The engine bay is all clean metal painted real
nicely.
UNDERSIDE: Floors and frame look solid, painted black. 4 new
shocks. Bottom of the motor is clean. It has the heat tube going
from the motor to the front.
We acquired this from a long time customer/ collector that only
owned quality. He kept this at his vacation home in the resort area
of Door County Wi. It's cute but also functional. Ready to be
driven and enjoyed. You will have fun, people love these. All you
will get are happy comments.
