For Sale: 1954 Ford Sunliner in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

First place AACA Junior winner 2016. Loaded with factory options. Loaded with eye appeal! Only 1,945 miles since a 6 year body off frame restoration. It was the cover car of Automobile Quarterly April 2006.

EXTERIOR: Absolutely stunning in my opinion. I'm in love with this car- the bright red and all those accessories make this one special. The body is amazing, laser straight from every angle. No dents, bubbles or issues. The paint looks like it's liquid red glass. It is polished so smooth and glossy. The chrome and stainless is beautiful- straight and shiny and there's plenty of it! Glass is clear, weatherstrips, gaskets and window seals were replaced. It has a rich looking black cloth convertible power top with the red bound edges. The convertible top frame has been restored, new cloth wrapped rubber strips. Door jambs are painted real nice, new sill plates. Reproduction Firestone white walls are on red painted rims with mint condition hubcaps. Here is a list of accessories- Coronado tire on the trunk, dual spotlights with mirrors, rocker moldings, stone shields, door handle gaurds, bumper gaurds, rear mount deluxe antenna, fender skirts, reverse lights and the flying bird hood ornament. That alone is rare, there's two on eBay- one for $1,249 and then there's one that needs to be rechromed for $500.

INTERIOR: Restored to look factory new. I'm sitting on seats that are nice and firm, cushions are excellent. They have been completely reupholstered front and back, the door panels were completely new arm rests and door handles. New carpet, visors, brake pedal and all the metal trim is painted. The knobs, heater control panel, machine turned trim are all excellent. It is loaded up inside too. Rare on a Ford- power windows and seat! Also radio, clock, under dash light, day-night mirror.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Looks like the day it was new. The all new for 1954 overhead valve V-8 Y block motor. They retired the flathead. It purrs. It is also painted nice, the valve covers and air cleaner are restored down to the proper decals. It has the correct Ford stamps on the hoses and reproduction clamps. The whole compartment is painted glossy finishes. Has the hood insulation. It features power steering and power brakes. It even has a correct reproduction battery. Right down to the last bolt it looks new.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: All metal painted gloss red. The correct rubber mat, side panels and well liner were replaced. It has a 5th matching Firestone whitewall tire on a red painted rim that has never been used. The jack assembly is restored and mounted properly. New weatherstrip and decal.

UNDERSIDE: Body was off the frame. The entire chassis was rebuilt and detailed. Balljoints, bushings, shocks and springs were replaced. Steering components were replaced. The bottom of the motor is extra clean. It has the Ford-o-matic transmission, also clean. In back it has a 3.54 gear in a detailed rear end. It has a nicely installed dual exhaust system. The fuel system was restored. Brakes were restored, has replaced lines and e-brake cables. The chassis was reunited with the body with new bushings. The bottom of the body has factory sound deadener on it.

True story, I was going to drive the car home so I reached in and turned the key to see if the battery was good, it fired up instantly! My son manages the showrooms and said that car always starts like that. It's a pleasure to drive. An automatic with power steering and brakes make it easy. I really felt special driving in this one. That's because this one is so special, cant compare to most of the others out there. Find one with these options in this color and in this condition, or I should say try to find one!
