This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu has the great hardtop look of a
true icon. And this one has been a long-term family vehicle that
was passed down to generations and even given a thorough
restoration only a few years ago. So as you look over everything on
this period-correct machine, it really gives you the feeling of a
V8 time capsule.
The reason these Chevelles have remained so popular is because they
represent the best of the era. It's a clean design free from the
clutter. So instead of '50s tailfins, these had a sleek profile
that helped define the '60s. You see this theme so well on the
wraparound chrome bumpers and a grille that's full of crisp lines.
While the full-length side trim running the length of the car
showcases the Malibu's premium spirit, it also highlights the
straightness of the sheetmetal. And getting closer, you just know
there was a small fortune spent in great details like the new
rubber seals, newer headlights, and making all the gaps look even.
In fact, we have $29k in receipts from this car's restoration in
2015. The reason why this was given such a big investment is
because the consignor inherited this hardtop from his father who
inherited it from his mother, who was the original owner. So it has
been given three generation of family care. This total impressive
package is all finished off in factory correct Ermine White with a
good gloss to look terrific in the sunshine.
Inside there has been a solid investment in the seats, door panels,
headliner, dash, and all the fundamentals to give this a crisp
original blue presentation. This is really a time machine on
wheels, and so even the factory AM radio is still there for
display. And an interior this nice means it's easy to share your
classic coupe experience with family and friends. But the best
experiences are just for you. After all, there's something magical
about grabbing the classic grippy steering wheel and cruising with
all the windows down in a pillarless hardtop.
Under the hood is a 283 cubic-inch V8 that's part of a tidy
stock-style package. The engine bay has that unmistakable Chevrolet
orange block, matching valve covers, and big air topper. The
consignor states it is original to the car, and the under 22k miles
on odometer are believe to reflect actual mileage. So this was
already a good powerhouse even before the rebuild during
restoration. And the investment seemed to be all about retaining
the stock style and getting back to day one status. This even
retains the triangular glass bottle for window washer refill. The
undercarriage looks just as clean as the rest of the car, so the
whole Chevy has been thoroughly tended. And because a Malibu is the
premium end of the Chevelle, you have easy driving features like a
Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes
w/discs up front. Even the American Racing wheels are a
period-correct upgrade, and they allow you to fit modern cruising
tires. So this is the true vintage machine that was made to be
enjoyed.
The sale come complete with great paperwork like the factory
buildsheet, original warranty card, owner's manual, and build
receipts. This is the V8 coupe that's true Americana. Don't miss
