For Sale: 1984 Nissan President in Lavergne, Tennessee
This car is very cool on multiple levels. It is limo luxury from
the import side. That means that while it is an extremely plush way
to travel, it will also fit down smaller roads and into smaller
parking places than its larger American cousins. For extra fun, it
also handles better, is right hand drive, and has cool retro
Japanese audio and rear-view camera technology. Check it out.
With a name like Nissan President Sovereign, there should be little
doubt that its target market was Japanese dignitaries and captains
of industry. It looks the part too with a solid dignified style
appropriate for its mission. The vinyl roof looks great with lots
of polished stainless trimming it out along with the chrome rain
guards on over the windows. One unique styling cue is the fender
mounted mirrors that Nissan has used on several of its models, but
also appears on cars as diverse as a Studebaker Avanti and some old
British models. There is a hood ornament perched proudly on the
hood and a Sovereign V8E badge on the Rolls Royce like grill that's
all trimmed out in chrome. There is a very spacious trunk that can
swallow up lots of luggage or several sets of golf clubs, so go
ahead, plan your road trip!
Open the drivers' door, which is the one on the right, and you will
find an extremely comfortable cloth interior just as you would
expect in a limo. It doesn't take long to get used to driving a
right-hand drive car, but it does take a while to get used to going
to the correct side of the car to get in. From the power operated
drivers' seat, you have control over the multitude of power
operated windows, 8 of them to be precise, as well as power
controls for those fender mounted mirrors, locks, trunk release and
fuel door. The steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column with the
shifter for the automatic transmission as well as switches for
cruise control, lights and wipers. The dash board has a burled wood
treatment with controls for the separate front and rear air
conditioning controls in the center. The audio and video are extra
fun in this car with the radio set up for Japanese frequencies and
a rear-view camera that mounts to the inside rear-view mirror.
The engine and drivetrain on this car are impressive and fun. Pop
the hood and you will find a fuel injected Nissan V8 engine that
displaces 4.4-liters. This car eventually morphed into an Infinity
Q45, so the character of that car was being developed and refined
in this car. The engine is powerful and the chassis tuned more
toward a personal luxury car than limo. Of-course there is power
steering that makes the car very maneuverable in parking lots and
power front disc brakes that assure good stopping ability. A
4-speed automatic transmission transfers the power back to the rear
wheels which puts it on the ground through a solid axle mounted on
coil springs with a sway bar. The front suspension is a control arm
setup working through coil springs also. The springs both front and
rear have been updated and replaced recently along with the shocks
and sway bar bushings and a set of Ruff Racing wheels mounts
225/40ZR18s in the rear with 215/40ZR18s in the front.
This is a personal luxury car (limo?) that is interesting, unique,
and fun to drive. Come on down and check it out. Then take it home
and enjoy it. You can be pretty sure that you won't see another one
like it in your neighborhood.
