Vehicle Description
1950 International Panel Delivery
NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY
When you think of the company International Harvester your mind
automatically jumps to farm equipment. But International had their
fingers all across the market. The International Harvester L Series
was introduced by International in the fall of 1949 as the
replacement for the KB Series and were available as everything from
light pickup trucks and delivery vehicles to full-size tractor
trailers. Electric wipers, a radio, and a clock were optional.
International would continue to produce the line until 1952 when it
was replaced by the R Series.
Gracing our hallowed halls here at the Classic Auto Mall, we
proudly have on consignment, a 1950 International L115 Panel
Delivery that was restored at some point in its life and is still
ready to haul the mail, milk, or whatever else you can think
of.
Exterior
Two tons of Fort Wayne, Indiana's finest bathed in Adirondack Green
presents very nicely from its prior restoration. Bulbous pontoon
front fenders grow from the nose of the truck and swoop down into
vinyl covered running boards. Smaller rear fenders grow from the
rear of the running boards to arch over the steel wheels before
coming to an end at the rear of the truck. Black painted bumpers
display at each end of this truck and provide a nice contrast to
the green. The chrome has some pitting and the Tri-Diamond logo is
present in the hood ornament. Overall the body and paint display
well with some scratches and chips here and there. Let's load her
up for market!
Interior
Utilitarian is the word of the day when it comes to this interior.
Black vinyl door panels cover Adirondack steel painted doors,
displaying proudly are chrome door handles and window cranks for
some extra shine. A pair of black vinyl covered low back bucket
seats provide ample support and show no tears. A sparse dashboard
shows necessary engine monitoring functions in twin round gauge
display. 4 chrome knobs surround the key switch and control the
wipers, choke, throttle, and cigar lighter. Radio delete here
folks, so start humming your favorite tune to help pass the miles
on the country roads. The cargo area is even more spartan than the
passenger area with steel siding, a spare tire and wooden slat
flooring. This all shows well and is ready for your milk, cheeses,
and produce!
Drivetrain
A 220ci Silver Diamond Inline 6 cylinder sits under the coffin
style hood. Topped with a 1-barrel carburetor and producing 90
horsepower it will handle almost anything you can throw at it. A
3-speed manual transmission is hooked to the rear of the engine and
a heavy-duty axle is out back.
Undercarriage
Surface rust covers much of the frame and suspension however there
is no invasive cancer to be seen here. Four-wheel manual drum
brakes adorn each corner to bring this hauler to a stop just in
case your eggs topple in the back. Leaf spring suspension shows on
the front and rear with an extra set of rear leaves installed by
the factory. All sound down here on the farm...
Drive-Ability
After a once over on the fluid levels and our trusty 6-volt test
battery installed my partner in crime and I crossed our fingers,
turned the key and pressed the starter button. A few revolutions of
the engine and she roared to life, success! She handled our test
track with ease and rides like...well a truck. While record setting
land speed records aren't in the cards for this truck, power is
ample, the transmission shifts smoothly, and the brakes are
adequate.
A well sorted truck that will be hard to lose at your local cruise
night or produce market. Swing on down to the Classic Auto Mall and
take this hauler for a spin, let your mind imagine all the things
you can haul. Your imagination is the only limit to what can be
done with this piece of history.
