Clarence is up for sale. A unique camper. In 1963 the Dodge dealer in Lewiston, Idaho, ordered the chassis from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and had the camper custom built in Spokane, Washington.
I am the third owner and have had it for the last 16 years. We drove it to Minnesota, but mostly locally to campgrounds and rivers to fish.
The 318 wideblock motor runs strong and has been rebuilt. The older Dodge guys claim it's the toughest motor ever built.
A few years ago a talented carpenter remodeled the camper. Everything works: stove; on-demand hot water heater; fridge. Also has an outside shower and air conditioning in the cab.
This retro functional camper is not geared to race down the highway at 75 mph. Clarence implores the driver to take it easy and enjoy the ride.
Last weekend we camped with friends at Farragut park. On Sunday as we came home we got 7 compliments and thumbs up. Clarence isn't for everyone, but will be a great fit for someone.
