Vehicle Description
This 1940 Plymouth 2-door Sedan is presented at the Maxmotive
Pittsburgh Showroom in original trim with just enough upgrades to
make it more fun to drive. That's saying a lot because it includes
the beautiful "Product of Chrysler Corp U.S.A." badge in front and
the famous sailing ship hood ornament that is simply a work of art.
The hubcaps and trim rings highlight the stock appearance. The
unmodified body is coated in a deep blue and the interior is tan
cloth with the all-original dash and gauges. The stock L-head
inline six and three speed manual see duty as the power team just
as Plymouth intended. The engine has been treated to a finned
aluminum Tattersfield head for a little performance boost along
with a Fenton intake and twin carbs for a very nice period vibe.
Dual exhausts with new mufflers help with engine breathing and
sound. The car rides on contrasting red steel wheels with stock
hubcaps and trim rings. Firestone whitewall radials have the
classic look with improved ride and handling. 1940 was a vintage
year for Plymouth, as their products were among America's sales
leaders. It was also a year of improvements and engineering
enhancements; a new longer, lower, wider design; a boost in power,
a new transmission that allowed more room inside; and the new "All
Weather Air Control" for better passenger comfort. It was truly
what it was advertised as: "The Low Priced Beauty with the Luxury
Ride." Allpar.com, an authority on all things Mopar, says, "The
1940 Plymouth was a great car. It had engineering far and above
anything offered in the low priced field (including Chevrolet and
Ford). It also had styling that is still distinctive today. With a
solid design and years of TLC, you can drive and enjoy this 1940
Plymouth DeLuxe 2-door Sedan for many more years. See photos and
