Vehicle Description
Early Mustangs are the universal collector car, beloved by all and
a lot of fun to own and drive. And despite their huge popularity,
cars like this 1966 Ford Mustang convertible remain surprisingly
affordable. With 289 V8 power, a quick-shifting 4-speed manual, a
fantastic color combination, and rare original documentation, this
is pretty green droptop is the one you've always wanted to own.
This handsome ragtop was repainted in the not too distant past
using the original code R Ivy Green Metallic color, which you
unfortunately don't see too often these days. You've seen a lot of
tired old Mustangs running around, and this most certainly is NOT
one of them, with incredibly solid sheetmetal and straight bodywork
throughout. Thanks to a life down South, body gaps are very good,
the surface finish of the paint has great depth and beautiful shiny
gloss, and it feels far more substantial than you'd expect from a
50-year-old ragtop. And since so many Mustangs are repainted bright
red, this one stands out, so if you want to get noticed, this is a
great way to do it. Who says only the British get to wear Racing
Green? Also, unlike most Mustangs, this one remains true to its
original specs, including the '289' badges on the front fenders,
which it comes by honestly (note the 'C' as the fifth digit in the
VIN). The chrome bumpers are in excellent shape, probably new when
the car was repainted, and the rest of the bright work and trim is
in great shape too, providing great contrast to the otherwise dark
green paint.
Black is also this car's original interior color, and it wears
standard ribbed vinyl upholstery that was likely replaced when the
car was restored, plus carpets with correct pile, stock door
panels, and a crack-free, smooth dash pad. Handsome "camera case"
black textures on the instrument panel work well with the black
interior, and the mostly monochromatic interior decor with chrome
accents actually makes for a very upscale look. All 1966 Mustangs
got the 1965 GT's 5-gauge instrument panel, ahead of the driver is
a sporty wood-rimmed steering wheel, and the center console houses
the best part of the interior - the 8-ball topped chrome shifter
for the 4-speed manual transmission below. There's even an original
AM radio still in the dash, although it will need to be replaced or
augmented with a glove box unit if you want tunes, and Mustangs
were the first domestic production car with standard seat belts,
which this one has front and rear. A contrasting power black
convertible is included, but on a Mustang ragtop, you're rarely
going to see it if you're doing things right. Out, back, the trunk
is nicely finished with a reproduction plaid mat on the spare tire
and durable carpet on the flooring that looks very tidy.
There's a correct C-code 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood and it's
in great shape, sitting inside a very tidy and polished engine bay
that's' ready to be shown off. It's not exactly a screamer, but it
does have good pop and purrs at idle but with authoritative torque
out on the road that makes the Mustang fun to drive. In fact, the
seller of this beautiful droptop lives about 45 minutes away from
our showroom, and has made the roundtrip visit a couple times to us
with no problems ever encountered. The underhood look is fantastic,
with Ford Blue on the engine itself, highlighted by a set of
polished valve covers and matching air cleaner, while most of the
other parts are satin black, as they should be. Bright red plug
wires provide nice contrast, and stock cast iron exhaust manifolds
feed a throaty dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. The
smooth 4-speed manual transmission has quick, crisp shifts and adds
a sporty demeanor to the car, and there are easy-cruising gears out
back, so it feels relaxed no matter what it's doing. Other goodies
include a Holley 4-barrel carb, Edelbrock intake manifold, and
fresh shocks underneath, and handsome Mustang steel wheels are
wrapped with 205/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A white-letter radials.
This is the Mustang you've always wanted, great colors, V8 power,
and a super-fun 4-speed, all priced right and ready to go. Don't
