Vehicle Description
1936 Ford Coupe
A beautiful coupe with unusual grace of line and contour. 3 can
ride comfortably in the wide seat. Upholstered choice of Mohair or
broadcloth, luxury appointed throughout. A parcel shelf in back of
the seat, dome light, rear window louvers, rumble seat at extra
cost. DeLuxe equipment only. Said the advertising for the 5-window
coupe.
This sporty looker with its founded aerodynamic lines, chrome
trimmings and rumble seat, was the perfect getaway car for the
newlyweds and possibly another couple. It's on consignment, and
presents in blue, and tan broadcloth interior with rear rumble seat
in black vinyl. A few faults in the many coats of exterior paint, a
fairly clean and tear free interior, and an unrestored 221ci
flathead V8, one could scoot away real fast, and in total comfort.
The engine currently does not run.
Exterior
Bathed in several resprays of Royal Blue, we see some scratches,
wear off areas at the seams, crazing, and underlying rust dimpling
underneath the paint coat. Running boards are a bit wavy, many due
to underlying rust on the undercarriage. A vertical ribbed grille
in chrome is slightly bent and flanked by a single bullet style
headlight on either side. Outside of these, are rounded fenders
which make their way around the wheels and attach to each other via
a running board which is body matching paint. A single simple
curved bumper is upfront and has rusting and dimpling. The dual
cowled hood has plenty of open venting, and some horizontal trim
spears to highlight the sleek hoodline on either side. This is a
5-window coupe and sports a new vinyl top in black. Hanging off the
rounded fenders with a styled long stalk are a single taillight on
either side and seen between them is a metal encased spare tire
just above the rear bumper. This spare leaves enough room for
access to the rumble seat, which is covered in black vinyl and
remains in good condition. Blue steel wheels are covered in the
center with a chromed moon cap, and on the edges with trim
rings.
Interior
Tan broadcloth covers virtually every surface save for the dash,
which is the metal painted black. It has simple gauges within the
panel in front of the driver, and an original steering wheel fronts
these instruments. A tan broadcloth bench stretches from door panel
to door panel and allows plenty of room for 3 adults. Headliner is
nice and tight and rubber covers the muddied floors.
Undercarriage
Plenty of heavy surface rust, and some invasive rust areas are
underneath. Floorpans, a horizontal frame drilled cross brace, and
slight areas of the rockers and frame are involved with invasive
rust. A bit of greasing blowback is seen on the transmission case,
and the exhaust is rusted.
A better than most barn find with useable panels on the exterior,
plenty of trim, a nice interior surviving all these years (possibly
redone) and a snappy new vinyl roof insert. Nice lines, not
perfect, but abs overall fair example of the 1936 5-window coupe
complete with rumble seat, bullet headlights, and a beautiful
design line.
