Stingrays are commonly found in the shallow coastal waters of
temperate seas. They spend the majority of their time inactive,
partially buried in sand, often moving only with the sway of the
tide. When they are inclined to move, most stingrays swim by
undulating their bodies like a wave; others flap their sides like
wings. The tail may also be used to maneuver in the water, but its
primary purpose is protection. When swimming under duress, they can
propel themselves incredibly fast and nimble through the water.
With the original owner ordering this car for a Christmas present
to give to his wife, the car was delivered December 14, 1966. His
wife did not take long to realize that it was in her words "like
driving a guided missile", the Vette went to the husband, and she
obtained a Rolls Royce. At this point the husband "hot rodded" the
car by having the dealer install year correct side pipes and a
tri-power manifold. He drove it for a bit, but then alas it
remained in heated storage for 12 years until our consigner picked
it up upon the passing of his longtime family friend. Mechanicals
will need to be renewed, and our experts here at Classic Auto Mall
did not want to attempt to put a battery in and fire it up, due to
any unknown gremlins that may have crept in after 12 years in
storage and not running. We give you an original, 22,477 mile 1967
427ci time capsule.
Exterior
The consigner states only a respray on the front fender on the
passenger's side. The car is in excellent condition in Sunfire
Yellow with a black stinger on the hood, hidden headlights, split
bumpers front and rear nice and shiny, and the dealer installed
side pipes. You've gotta love the top of the doors wrapping into
the roof, borrowed from aircraft design. A single piece of curved
rear glass frames a pointed rear deck and the duo of 2 round
taillights on the sharklike back. 15 inch rally wheels are now on,
however this car comes with the original bolt on wheels from the
dealership that came with this car, and dating the tires we got
back to 1969!
Interior
I'd have to say with the low miles on this car, you would need to
call the interior concours quality, it is that pristine. All
original black vinyl door panels, buckets center console with power
window toggles and ball topped automatic shifter in between the
buckets. Moving upward in the center of the 2 arches which make up
either side of the dash, a vertically mounted radio, numerous
chromed knobs and a round clock. In front of the driver are all the
shiny and very clean gauges and some more knobs and controls as
well as the odometer. A large wood rimmed steering wheel is
fronting the dash, and nice clean like new black carpeting is
covering all floors, including the back storage area under the rear
curved glass. Headliner is black and a single panel under the roof.
We note many options in the interior such as factory air
conditioning, head rests, speed warning, full tint and a telescopic
steering wheel, just to name a few.
Drivetrain
All numbers matching 427ci L36 390hp V8 with the correct
alternator, and distributor numbers with the engine being built in
Tonawanda, NY on November 16th, 1966. On top is a date correct 1967
intake and trio of 2-barrel carburetors (coined tri-power), and on
back is a Powerglide 2-speed automatic also numbers matching.
Factory power steering and power brakes. The rear axle is also
matching and is in 3.08 Posi-traction form. The original and
correct single 4bbl intake, carburetor and air cleaner are included
with the car.
Undercarriage
Nice patina and slight surface rust but all structurally sound.
Floorpans and toe kicks are just fab as are rockers. Independent
coil sprung front suspension is on, and C2 suspension brings up the
rear. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
A well optioned car, all clean and fresh out of storage from the
last 35 years. Comes with its original protect-o-plate and never
been judged or certified, we'll leave that up to you. Some work
will be required by a professional to fire this car back up, but in
the end, you will have a certifiable, original, low low mileage
427ci Corvette with tri-power and side pipes. It just does not get
any better for the collectible genre.
