For Sale: 1970 Oldsmobile 442 in Seekonk, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

This gorgeous 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Coupe was restored by Oldsmobile 442 experts “Thornton Muscle Cars” and is simply one of the best. This is a very correct and high show quality frame off restoration. This car is documented and was a 57,000 original mile survivor prior to the restoration that was completed in 2020. It sports a beautiful color combination of a red/white exterior and a black/white interior. It’s loaded with features including ice cold air conditioning. It’s powered by the original matching numbers 455 V8 engine and Turbo 400 automatic transmission. MS CLASSIC CARS has been looking for many years to purchase a Thorton’s Oldsmobile 442 for our collection but haven’t been able to make it happen until now.  This is a great opportunity to purchase one of the best right here, right now!

As the VIN number indicates this car was built in Framingham, MA as a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 2-dr hardtop coupe. As the original partial build sheet and trim tag indicate the car was originally Matador Red with a white painted top and black interior. As the original partial build sheet indicates it was delivered to Luke Motors, Inc located in Chester, Pennsylvania. The original partial build sheet also indicates this car was built with factory air conditioning. The original partial build sheet is included with the sale. The original Luke Motors key chain and license plate frame are also included with the sale.

This car was discovered in Pennsylvania by Thornton Muscle Cars located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Thornton Muscle Cars is a family owned business that has an excellent reputation for doing outstanding restorations on Oldsmobile 442s. With a staff consisting of four people they’re only able to restore a few cars per year. Their considered the experts in the world of Oldsmobile 442s. They’ve set many Oldsmobile 442 sales records at Barrett Jackson. Prior to the restoration this car was a 57,000 original mile survivor. It was the perfect candidate for a restoration because it was rust free and retained the original drivetrain. During the restoration process the body was taken off the frame and stripped to bare metal. The body retains all the original sheet metal with exception of the two front fenders and passenger door which were replaced with original GM sheet metal. During the restoration the decision was made to paint the exterior Matador Red with White stripes but not paint the top White. The decision was also made to add the Pearl White trim to the black interior. The decision was also made to add the following options: W25 Ram Air Hood, sport mirrors, SSII wheels, bucket seats, sport steering wheel, dual gate console and POSI rear axle. All of these changes greatly improve the vehicles character making it highly desirable. The restoration was completed in 2020 and currently has 57,080 original miles. As stated from MS CLASSIC CARS part-time employee Carl Almeida “This car is truly like stepping back in time and purchasing it brand new”.

The exterior of this car is truly remarkable in every sense of the word. The aggressive design screams American Muscle and will always be timeless. The 1970 Oldsmobile 442 is very similar to the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. They’ll both always be highly sought after American Muscle Cars. The body of this car is extremely straight with excellent gap lines throughout. The hood, doors and rear deck lid close so nicely! The W25 Ram Air hood has hood pins to keep it secure. The car has been finished in its original color of Matador Red – code C/75. The hood stripes and body line stripes were painted White. These two colors greatly complement each other especially on this car. The paint quality is exceptional throughout. This is one of the best paint jobs we’ve ever had on a vehicle at MS CLASSIC CARS. The photos truly don’t do it any justice. The car was just finished in 2020 so the paint is super fresh and has been detailed to a brilliant shine. The painted dual mirrors look very sporty.  All of the glass is in excellent condition throughout. From the information gathered the front windshield was replaced new and the remaining glass was refurbished. All of the glass stainless trim was restored and fits beautifully throughout. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced such as the wipers, door handles, grill, headlight buckets, headlights, front bumper, fender trim, rear bumper, taillights, license plate assembly and emblems. The car sits proudly on SSII 14” wheels with new correct Goodyear Polyglas G70-14 tires. This car has the ultimate look!

The interior is this car is also truly remarkable in every sense of the word. It’s literally like sitting in a brand new car. The car originally had a black interior with a bench seat which was boring. The bench seat was replaced with sporty bucket seats. To improve its appearance Pearl White was added to complement the exterior colors. The simulated wood trim on the dash and console ads a touch of class. The new interior was ordered from Legendary Interior which is a high quality brand. The headliner, sun visors, pillars, door panels and the bucket seats are Pearl White. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced including the headliner, sun visors, rear view mirror, dash pad, dash, dash hardware, gauges, steering column, sport steering wheel, radio, heating/air conditioning system, dual gate console, shifter, door panels, window cranks, door handles, seats, seat belts, pedals and carpeting. A set of new correct black rubber floor mats were added. The air conditioning was upgraded to 134 with cross flow condenser. Everything in the interior is in working condition such as the dome light, courtesy lights, gauges, clock, headlights, turn signals, horn, radio, heating/air conditioning system, etc. Even the key buzzer works!

The trunk compartment has been fully restored and is in excellent condition. It was finished in the correct trunk paint. It also has the correct style trunk mat. It’s equipped with a full size spare and the factory jack tools.
The engine compartment is very correct and highly detailed throughout. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support was finished in the correct shade of black. Everything in the engine compartment has been restored or replaced such as the hood hinges, wiring, wiper motor, hoses, clamps, nuts and bolts. The car is powered by the original matching numbers 455 V8 engine which was completely rebuilt. It was rebuilt to factory specs with the exception of a mild Comp Cam. The engine was painted in the correct shade of blue. The car is fueled by its original carburetor that was completely rebuilt. The car breathes through factory manifolds and a new correct style dual exhaust system that sounds awesome. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The power is transferred to the original rear end with 3.23 gears. The rear end was upgraded to POSI for better traction.

The undercarriage is also very correct and highly detailed throughout. The underside of the body was finished in the correct finish including the red body color, grey and the black textured paint around the transmission area. It also has the correct factory paint marks, tags and stickers throughout. Everything was restored or replaced including the fuel tank, power steering system, power braking system and suspension system.
