Vehicle Description
Over the past few years, we've certainly seen some nice resto-mods.
But this 1967 Mustang, with its trick Roush 427 and seductive
aggressive styling, is definitely one of the coolest! Fully sorted
and ready to hit the road, this awesome Ford combines the
stump-pulling power of one of Dearborn's best tuners with vintage
Detroit style that's cool enough to lead a parade. And today,
thanks to meticulous restoration, not only is it an exceptionally
fun place to spend a sightseeing summer, it's also an authentic
piece of Americana that'll be welcomed at virtually any car show in
any town. If you're looking for a choice classic that's as alluring
as it is powerful, who says you need a high maintenance original?
This awesome pony will look just as cool rolling down the road,
show just as well at the local drive-in and provide just as many
miles of carefree cruising!
GRAY WITH A DASH OF PEPPER
A slick '60s icon that features an impressively straight body, this
Mustang benefitted from a detailed, nut-and-bolt restoration that
supplemented solid sheetmetal with an aggressive body kit.
Naturally, those curves were dressed in sleek Pepper Gray and
Metallic Black war paint. And today, the car rolls as one
head-turning thoroughbred that's right at home reflecting a
summertime cruise-in!
Back in the day, Dearborn designers made sure every year of the
first-generation Mustang had plenty of visual sizzle. And in the
21st century, it doesn't get much better than this Ford's racy
combination clean factory accents and Shelby-inspired trim. At the
front of the car, Shelby-branded billet hangs prominent PIAA fog
lamps between PIAA driving lamps and a custom valance that's
fashioned around modern headlights. Above those lights, a
lightweight, high-clearance hood leads a stainless-trimmed
windshield that's sealed between polished, bullet-style mirrors and
a black, power-operated cloth folding top. A long profile seats
polished door handles and billet-trimmed quarter scoops between a
billet fuel filler and appropriately aggressive rocker panel
skirts. And at the back of the car, an extended, Shelby-style
decklid joins a lightweight bumper and angled fender caps to cage a
black, Shelby-branded valance, monochromatic taillights and PIAA
reverse lamps.
ROUSH POWERED SHELBY
Pop this Mustang's lightweight hood and you'll find 427 cubic
inches of Roush Performance small block that gives fresh meaning to
the words "Go Baby, Go"! Ensuring this Mustang's would-be
challengers will face a much direr reality than that provided by a
retrofitted romantic relic, this surly Roush mill utilizes a forged
4340 crank, 4340 H-beams, a hydraulic roller cam and forged pistons
to twist a massive 550 horsepower into 535 lb./ft. of all-day
torque. Speed begins with a "ROUSH" branded air cleaner, which
mixes fresh oxygen with high octane pump gas that's provided by a
coated Holley 870 4-barrel. That carb is bolted to a single-plane
Edelbrock intake, which rides between aluminum, CNC-ported Roush
heads that hide fluid roller rockers under stylish Roush valve
covers. Fire is provided by a hot MSD distributor and loomed Roush
9mm plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a big aluminum radiator,
which uses bright hoses and an aluminum water pump to circulate
coolant past electric puller fans, a polished expansion tank and a
"V8" branded cap. Coated BBK headers evacuate spent gases into
large-diameter pipes. And at the front of those tubes, a Billet
Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins a polished Powermaster
alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. Aesthetically, the
Jet Black block looks right at home in the car's massaged engine
bay. Well-planned details, like billet hood supports, braided fluid
lines, a Ringbrothers clutch reservoir and a reliable Wilwood
master cylinder, are both functional and appealing. And, since the
whole set up was machined, balanced assembled and dyno tested by
the pros at Roush, it's guaranteed to be a fun ride!
PUTTING THE RESTO IN RESTO-MOD
Take a look under this Mustang and you'll find solid floors that
are highlighted by smooth, Pepper Gray two-stage and a roster of
choice hardware. A Roush-sourced Tremec TKO600 5-speed spins power
to a 9-inch Ford axle that's packed with a posi-traction
differential and big, 3.89 gears. That drivetrain hangs in an
upgraded chassis, which aligns a Rod and Custom Motorsports
front-half with a quality Heidts rear-clip. Turns are easy thanks
to power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners of the car, red
Wilwood calipers clamp a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors.
Aluminized exhaust, wired with an H-shaped crossover, fills throaty
Stainless Works mufflers, which bark through requisite side-exit
tips. And power meets the pavement through polished American Racing
Shelby Cobras, which spin 245/40R18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s in
front of 275/40R18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s.
TRADITIONAL WITH A FEW TWISTS
Swing the doors and you'll find a fully restored cockpit that's
been updated with a perfect amount of style and convenience. Front
and center, modern buckets join a traditional bench in stretching
Kustom Classics Carroll Shelby Signature Leather under a padded
roll bar. A factory-spec dash hangs fresh Auto Meter Phantom
telemetry over controls for modern air conditioning. Fresh carpet
floats Mustang-themed floor mats between thick Dynamat, billet foot
pedals and a customized console that's centered on a short Mustangs
To Fear shifter. A polished and leather-wrapped Lecarra steering
wheel laps a modern, tilting column. Good breeze and great V8
sounds come courtesy of four power-operated windows. And modern
Kenwood audio bumps tunes through small tweeters, large Kenwood
kick speakers and big Pioneer subwoofers.
When it comes to maximizing the amount of metal your money buys,
you simply can't go wrong with a purpose-built pony car. Thanks to
its thorough restoration, this legendary Ford is a great driving
piece that's cool, historic AND fun. If you're looking for a
stylish classic that commands respect on both the boulevard and the
show field, this slick Mustang is just your style!
