Vehicle Description
1956 Pontiac Chieftain This car is amazing! Purchased new in
Medford, Ore. and kept by elderly woman owner until she gave it to
her granddaughter. Body is super straight, interior is original and
in excellent condition. Do not see rust anywhere. The stainless
steel trim and chrome are excellent, as is the glass. Original
owners manual in great condition! The engine runs excellent. Very
smooth and lots of power. It is original condition. It is missing
the glass windshield washer bottle, but they are available. You
push a button on the floorboard to activate the window washer. The
interior carpet was replaced with matching new due to fading. The
package tray will be replaced with new and is on it's way. Years
ago the top surfaces were repainted in the correct factory color.
Guessing due to either oxidation or flaking. The lower blue/green
paint is factory original. The data tag shown indicates the factory
color is called Hialeah Green with Nimbus Gray. It looks like baby
blue to me with maybe a hint of green, but it is a striking color
combination. Interior colors are a green pattern cloth with light
gray imitation leather. Everything works. The 56 Pontiac is
reminiscent of the 55 Chevy Coupe, but with a lot more bling. The
grille is a work of art. Note the small wings on the rear fenders.
It has the original deluxe AM radio and amazingly it has all the
original bakelite knobs intact. It still has the original Kleenex
dispenser under the dash (shown). It has power steering and power
brakes that both work well. The tires are the original still bias
ply whitewall tires. It rides okay, but radial tires would make a
big improvement, but would not look original. Mechanically and
cosmetically, this car is in very good overall condition. It is not
a #1 Concours show car, but I would say it is honestly between a
#2-#3 condition car. This car is in well above average overall
condition.
