Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1968 Mercedes-Benz 250SL
Pagoda. This is a remarkably honest and original example presented
in its factory color of Light Ivory. MCS brokered the sale of this
car seven years and 9,000 miles ago to its current owner; we have
ownership history to new and service records dating to the early
2000s. We believe the indicated mileage on the working odometer is
original.
A repaint some years ago (prior to 2004) in the correct color is
showing light patina, with some crazing on the fenders but no
serious flaws, accident damage or corrosion. One of the better
original undersides on a W113 we have seen - plenty of minor leaks
and accumulated grime, but no evidence of rust or former rust
repair underneath (see photos). Hard top and boot lid stampings
match the body number. Correct notches in fenders by headlight
rings. Trim is complete and in nice condition. Euro headlights.
Interior presents well with steering wheel, dash, door panels and
leather seat upholstery all in good condition. Excellent wood, very
good interior chrome and gauge bezels. Ventilation sliders,
backlights and instrument lights and gauges are all working.
Original Becker Europa TR remains in dash for appearance only; a
modern stereo has been tastefully installed within the glove box
compartment (note that the original automatic map light function
still works). We believe the square-weave carpet in this Pagoda is
original - and beneath the aftermarket floor mats are the original
factory rubber mats over exceptionally clean original floors (see
photos of passenger-side floors for reference). The soft top is
showing light wear but there are no holes or tears in it; the soft
top compartment is crisp and clean with original labels in
place.
Under the hood is the original, numbers-matching 2.5 liter overhead
cam inline six mated to Mercedes-Benz's innovative four-speed
automatic transmission. Bosch mechanical fuel injection is properly
tuned and running well (the car starts easily hot and cold and
makes good power throughout the rev range). Recent tune-up with
cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires plus Pertronix electronic
ignition upgrade. Recent water pump, shifter bushings, engine
mounts, subframe mounts and front brakes. Transmission shifts
crisply without being harsh.
While this car does not present to a concours standard, it feels
like an honest car that has been loved and driven - but not to the
point of being shabby or worn out. Maintenance is up to date.
Overall it's an attractive and well-sorted example of the W113
Pagoda that you can drive and enjoy as is, offered at a price point
that won't break the bank. Books, tools, records and data card
included. For more information about this 1968 Mercedes-Benz 250SL
