Vehicle Description
This 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible Restomod is an awesome build
that takes a ton of the Shelby GT350's style, and it upgrades it in
every way. That means a fuel-injected V8 power, a seriously
upgraded suspension, five-speed stick-shift, and it's all wrapped
around a slick convertible body.
Yes, there were no convertibles in the original batch of GT350
cars. So instead, this one helps us imagine what a first-gen
snake-bitten droptop Mustang would look like. It also likes to
stand out against the trend by being finished in an ultra-sleek
black. It's the kind of finish that shows off the impressive body
quality and highlights instantly conveys that they made a big
investment in this car. In fact, we have the stack of receipts
documenting the multiple years and nearly $100k invested to create
this unique classic. And while it was built to stand out from the
crowd, it's also unmistakable Shelby inspired. For example, the
dual racing stripes and rocker stripes give this the right GT350
flair. Plus, they now look even better when paired with the white
folding roof. The hood scoop and hood pins give this an aggressive
face, and that's furthered by the dual billet grilles of the
GT350-R style front. Side scoops, a GT350 gas cap, and trumpeted
rear exhaust show you they paid attention to details. And those
wheels have a classic Halibrand-style pattern, but they are larger
and polished to make sure this one announces it's something extra
special.
While we like the way the white top looks in place, with the flip
of a switch, it powers down to reveal a crisp and clean interior.
And let's face it, nothing beats a well-done black interior. The
investments here were done nicely. You have classic elements, like
the wood-rimmed steering wheel, full-length center console, and
vintage racing seatbelts. Plus, there are some well-integrated
modern upgrades, like the tilt steering column and power steering.
The bucket seats have a stock look but actually have better modern
bolstering and a cool GT350 embossed in them. And the stick shift
goes particularly well with the large Shelby tach mounted on the
dash.
The engine bay is dressed to impress everywhere from the Carroll
Shelby chrome valve covers to the aluminum hood hinges. And within
this style is a ton of substance. The 302 cubic-inch V8 has been
enhanced and upgraded with an MSD Atomic fuel injection system,
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge aluminum heads, Comp Cams camshaft, and
Sanderson headers. There was also a big investment here for the
right supporting components, including the aluminum radiator, MSD
ignition, aluminum pulleys, and a full adjustable bracing package.
The T5 five-speed manual transmission gives you full control over
the V8 and its rumbling soundtrack. And as you look underneath the
car, you'll see fresh components that tell you control is a central
theme to this build. It includes an upgraded front suspension and
FAYS2 watts link rear. And not only will this handle better than an
original Shelby, but also the Wilwood four-wheel disc brake package
means it's a superior stopper, too.
The sale come complete with a reproduction window sticker, build
receipts, and the owner's manual. This is the Mustang delivers the
Shelby car we all wish existed, and does it in a superior package.
