Vehicle Description
1955 Mercury Meteor Sedan Delivery
Bill Nye the Science Guy describes a Meteor as such: If a meteoroid
enters the Earth's atmosphere and vaporizes, it becomes a meteor,
which is often called a shooting star.
Built Ford Tuff with Chevy Stuff as this self-described hot rodded
version of the somewhat rarely seen Mercury Meteor sedan delivery
proclaims on its rear window scribblings. We are gonna take a trip
down memory lane, with white fading to turquoise, and pin up girls
with flourish pinstriped halos, shaved bumpers and 50's chrome
grille.
Exterior
Turquoise blesses the shaved doors, frenched taillights, and upside
down front and rear bumpers, now body matching in color. A 1956
Olds gave up its headlights for the front and the toothy Meteor
grille complete with centered V drop and star in the middle, also
with futuristic 50's style turn signal bezels. Moving rearward the
customization continues with a fade to white top that has extended
into the window areas and now covers them. Within this panel is
some custom airbrush work "cruisin' down memory lane" and a
cartoonesque picture of the car. Polished Superior 5 spoke mag
wheels highlight all 4 corners and are wrapped with 215/60R15's.
Don't forget the pinstripe flourishes replacing the front and rear
center badging and ornamentation. The rear door has a pin up gal in
a white bikini (queue the wolf whistle!)
Interior
Customization gone wild to say the least with a mixed batch of
white leather with turquoise suede accenting going on all over the
place. A fine swoop pattern using the two materials covers the door
panels which have power windows. We move to the seats which are
custom buckets with white bolsters in leather and include a
smattering of turquoise suede inserts complete with lumbar support
action. A totally custom suede and leather console is seen racing
up the center between the seats. This has a backup camera screen
inserted, and a cluster of circle designed gauges and a round
radio. The metal dash imitates the exterior with a fade from a
white topper to the turquoise dash front. A rally style steering
wheel is fronting this faded colored dash, and a barefoot style gas
pedal is there for some giggles! In the delivery back more suede
swoops in turquoise that end at the rear with an M, dual built in
wheel well covers with inserted speakers and some aqua carpet
flooding the floors. Glass is all new and tinted, and a stereo
system has 8 hidden speakers.
Drivetrain
Circa 1986 and newer is when the 350ci V8 was born. It sits in an
engine bay bejeweled with plenty of chrome trappings, stainless
tubes and a matching turquoise block with snazzy matte gray
Alumacote headers. Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carb provide the
fossil and air mixture. A 700 R4 overdrive transmission is strapped
to the backside of the 350 cubes and there is a Dana 4.11 rear.
Undercarriage
A 1975 Firebird front clip, 25 gallon fuel tank, Cen-Tech wiring,
and 2.5 inch stainless steel pipes are just a few of the highlights
underneath is this clean rust free, structurally sound environment
we call the undercarriage.
Drive-Ability
I climbed in and lit the 8 candles, and I want to tell you for
free, it was like trying to tame a bucking bronco. Prior to putting
this beast in gear, be damn sure your foot is planted firmly own
the brake, as it wants to go...like hell, and it does. It also
provides a smooth ride, good cornering made easier with power
steering, and an overall comfortable, all be it loud ride. The
backup cam is a nice plus too!
A rare shooting star from mid 1950's Mercury now turned custom hot
rod. Blazing colors, and blazing speed is what you can expect when
you are planted in the blazing saddle...Whoah cowboy..!
