Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is thrilled to offer one of the
rarest automobiles in existence. a 1953 Ferrari 340MM Vignale
Spyder. This particular car is a faithful tribute to the original,
4 originals were originally created, each on their own
million-dollar cars. this is believed to be the only tribute in
existence to the original cars. The 340 MM was built for the 1953
Mille Miglia which Giannino Marzotto duly won in a Barchetta
version with coachwork by Vignale. Marzotto set a new record speed
for the race at an average of over 142 km/h. However, the car was
quite a handful to drive, thanks in part to its incredible power
which very few drivers ever managed to fully exploit. However, Gigi
Villoresi was one of the greats who did, roaring to victory in the
Giro di Sicilia in the same year. Formula 1 champion Alberto Ascari
also contributed to the development of the 340 MM. This car is a
tribute specifically to the Chassis: 0280AM. The third 340 MM
constructed and the first one bodied by Vignale. It was one of the
factory cars and driven to Mille Miglia success in 1953 by Giannino
Marzotto. It also took victory in the Giro di Sicilia in the hands
of Luigi Villoresi. It remained in Italy after its retirement and
has been in the ownership of the same family since 1964. This
15-year build recently was completed to the highest quality. Our
340MM is based on a 1977 Ferrari Chassis, tubular in construction,
stripped and painted for a like-new appearance. The drivetrain is
also 1977 Ferrari, a four-cam, Aluminum 4.8L V12 Colombo engine
with 81 mm bore and a 78 mm stroke. Six side-draft duel barrel
38DCOE Weber Carburetors producing 340bhp at 6,500rpm and a
screaming ITB intake sound over 7000 RPM. Long tube headers provide
great exhaust flow and a distinct Ferrari V12 melody out the
quad-tip exhaust. a 5 Speed manual sits comfortably behind the V12,
providing the precise driving experience any racing driver would
want. The suspension is Fully independent aluminum double-wishbone
construction, featuring Strange Coilovers, four-piston disc brakes
front and rear. 17" Multispoke wire wheels on BFG radial tires hold
her through the corners. The Body was constructed from scratch,
using hand-shaped aluminum skin over a wooden buck, this
painstaking process is an art form in itself. a superstructure was
created to attach the body to the existing chassis. The Exterior
has many complex curves, vents, louvers, and features that only a
master craftsman would be able to recreate. Painted in the Classic
Ferrari Rosso Corsa, her deep red finish gleams in the sun and
looks ready to drive across a concourse. The bottom half is painted
silver just like the original 0280AM chassis! The interior is
sparse, but remember, this a racecar from the 1950s! Gorgeous Tan
Leather seats for both the driver and codriver, red racing style
lap belts, tan leather adorns the transmission tunnel, shifter
boot, and door panels! a classy black shift knob, steel-faced
