Vehicle Description
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is a real-deal Super Sport, and
it comes with the buildsheet to prove it! So when you've also got a
cool and correct color combo on one of the most desirable big block
muscle cars around, you know this is an exceptional
opportunity.
This car was built with style from day one. The factory-correct
Champagne Gold is an attention-grabbing color. And that
desirability gets amped up when adding black on the SS stripes,
blackout grille, rear panel, and correct vinyl roof. It creates a
timelessly attractive look, and this coupe was born with it. When
this one was given a restoration later in life, they made sure to
invest in quality paint and take time with the body panels. So
there's plenty of elegance here. Of course, as a real-deal Super
Sport, it also has plenty of aggression. The cowl hood, wide dual
exhaust tips, and mag-style wheels are all part of the muscle car
sensation.
The saddle tan interior is both factory-correct and a nice
coordinating color to the exterior gold. There's plenty of
originality here, right down to the correct trim on the seats. So
there's some age here, and this hardtop wears it with pride. They
also made some newer investment in places like the headliner, sun
visors, and dash just to make sure the that the right pieces feel
good. This was a nicely optioned car from the factory, and so
lovers of vintage pieces will be showing off the Delco AM/FM radio
and factory A/C controls (will need servicing to blow cold again.)
But because you also want to drive this Chevelle SS, upgrades like
the auxiliary gauges keep you updated on what's going on under the
hood.
We can confirm this was born a 396 Super Sport, but the motor under
the hood goes further than what came from the factory. The 396
cubic-inch big block is a replacement that has go-fast goodies like
a Quick Fuel four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake,
and headers feeding the rumbling dual exhaust. Plus, it has the
right supporting component, including an MSD ignition, Accel Super
coil, and upgraded billet pulleys. It makes for a strong running
package that's providing some serious power. The numbers-matching
TH400 three-speed transmission is a stout unit that can handle this
car's muscle while also providing easy automatic shifting. It feeds
the strong 12-bolt rear end. As you look over the whole car, you'll
spot more of the correct SS features, like the boxed trailing arms
and rear sway bar. Plus, there's power steering, wide Cooper Cobra
tires, and power brakes w/discs up front to keep this a nice
all-around driver.
Not only will you love the distinction of this Chevelle, but also
the accompanying buildsheet that proves its awesome color combo and
it's a genuine Super Sport. This car just bleeds originality, so
original that the factory buildsheet is is STILL glued to the
inside drivers door panel. We pull the door panel to take the
photo, we did not want to risk damaging it so we left it in place.
