Heritage
Introduced in the North American market in the 1995 model year, the
E36 M3 aimed to market BMW's highest-spec 3-series for larger
appeal, yet still with a limited number produced. Where the
original M3 aimed towards a hardcore track rat, the new car's
smooth straight six and more ample torque made it a better daily
driver. A five-speed automatic transmission was available, with
three body styles: coupe, convertible, and sedan. It's said, the
E36 M3 remains one of the best-handling cars for the buck. While
new, it compared favorably with the Acura NSX, Ferrari F355,
Porsche 993, and Toyota Supra - all of which are now valuable
collector items. Lively, quick, yet very easy to drive at or near
the limit, the E36 M3 makes for an amazing momentum car on the
circuit or twisty backroads.
Purchased new in May of 1996 from Vasek Polak BMW, this lifelong
Southern California car would reside in the greater Los Angeles
area under limited ownership, thoughtful care, and preservation
until 2020. With just over 62,000 miles, the M3 remains
exceptionally original throughout, in unmodified stock condition.
The BMW is supported by all original books in folio, pre-delivery
documentation, mileage logs and service notations from June
1996-February 2020, registration documents, both sets of keys,
records and more.
The M3's Alpine White paint displays very well and largely
original, both visually and by paint meter readings, complemented
by all original BMW etched glass, trim, lenses, and Motorsport
wheels with mounted Yokohama Advan tires. Importantly, factory
VIN-matched identification decals remain adhered to the exterior
truck lid, trunk lid interior, both doors and both front fenders.
The cabin presents equally well with supple original leather sport
seats, working factory radio and equipment, cold air conditioning,
sunroof, supplemental floor mats and a June 2020 reupholstery of
the headliner and pillars. The tidy luggage compartment contains a
complete tool kit, matching spare assembly with original 1995 dated
tire, and optioned 6-CD changer - while the preserved
undercarriage, with factory Cosmoline and markings leads to very
clean engine bay with original finishes, decals, markings, and
airbox. Driving and performance is excellent, thanks to a May 2020
Certified BMW inspection and service. This included a full fluid
flush and filer change. Other notable 2020 services addressed new
tires, engine mounts, spark plugs, and a California smog test. A
February 2020 inspection read 180 psi compression across the
cylinders.
