1918 Chevrolet 490 Roadster
This 1918 Chevrolet 490 is a roadster model that reportedly spent time in Texas and Oklahoma before moving to Arizona in 1948, and was acquired by the seller in 2019. The car is powered by a 2.8-liter OHV inline-four paired with a three-speed selective-sliding manual transmission. Service included rebuilds of the bench seat and carburetor as well as replacement of the running boards, inner tubes, spark plugs, six-volt battery, wiring, and wheel bearings. Driveline fluid changes have also been carried out according to the seller. This 490 is offered with an instruction manual, a hand crank, top bows, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
This roadster wears black paint, and new factory-style running boards were added under the seller’s ownership. Wood and metal top bows are included in the sale.
Wood-spoked wheels have been repainted in yellow and wear Ward’s Riverside 30×3 1/2″ bias-ply tires with replacement inner tubes and brass valve stems. A matching spare is fitted out back. New wheel bearings have been installed and the chassis grease cups filled according to the seller. The car is equipped with external-contracting rear brakes. This is a rust free vehicle.
The bench seat frame has been rebuilt and new black tufted upholstery added. Additional service reportedly included installation of new wiring and a rebuild of the floor-mounted started button. A rubber mat covers wood floorboards
The car is equipped with both factory and period ‘ahooga’ horns, and aftermarket switches have been placed in the ignition panel.
The Arthur Mason-designed 2.8-liter OHV inline-four was Chevrolet’s standard engine and is the original found in this automobile.
Service performed under the seller’s ownership included a carburetor rebuild as well as installation of a new six-volt battery, spark plugs, and ignition wires. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed selective-sliding manual transmission. An oil change has been carried out along with transmission and differential fluid changes according to the seller. A starter crank is included in the sale.
