Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Custom Convertible This is a very unique
car. Camaros have been modified for years so I wanted to do
something different but tasteful. A 1959 Impala has the best
looking dash of all times so I removed the Camaro dash frame then
modified a dash out of a 1959 Impala to fit. Removing 3' from the
center and 1' from each end as well as several inches from the
windshield area. The original radio face plate was narrowed 3' then
re-chromed. The radio face plate is removable to use the Vintage
Air center duct, two side vents were fabricated to look like the
gauge cluster. The gauges were replaced with Classic Instrument
Gauges that were set up for the LS engine and 4l60E trans. A square
back bench seat was modified to fit, the rear seat was modified for
the 1959 Impala rear speaker grill then both seats were covered
with NOS 1959 Impala cloth, custom door panels were made and Impala
arm rests were installed. A column shifted tilt column was
installed with a smaller 1959 steering wheel. The trunk area has
been finished with the same material The front sub frame was
replaced with a tubular frame and control arms from Total Cost
Involved. The rear leaf springs were replaced with a 4-link from
Ride Tech. The rear gears are 3:42 with a new posi unit. The car
rides on shock wave air ride suspension, The rear frame rail were
moved in as well as the rear inner wheel wells to accommodate the
315/35/17 tire. The car stops with 4 wheel power disk brake and has
power rack and pinion steering The convertible top is power and is
covered with Haartz Cloth, a zip down one piece glass rear window
was installed and has a matching boot to cover the convertible top
when it is down. The LS1 Engine is stock with a LS6 Intake
Manifold, custom painted coil covers were installed, fuel tank is
from Tanks and has a in tank fuel pump for the Fuel Injected
Engine. The exhaust system was custom mandrel bent made from
stainless, Magnaflow mufflers were installed.
