Looking to compete in the mid-size car market, Chevrolet introduced it's new A-body platform design and the Chevelle automobile. The new Chevelle was similar in size, simplicity, and concept to the standard-sized 1955–1957 Chevrolet models, and was the U.S. auto industry's only all-new car for 1964 and was positioned to fill the gap between the small Chevy II and the full-sized Chevrolet models. The Chevelle line of cars was a hit, selling nearly 340,000 units in its first year of production.
The car presented at auction is a nice driver car that shows very well. The Red on Red with White Top is a striking color combination. When you add the chrome and stainless accents, this car is a real head turner. The chrome and stainless are original, and the grill is in good condition. The manual top operates smoothly and the vinyl top and red boot are in good condition. Typical for boots, it is very tight and the current owner has never attached it to the car.
Mechanically the car runs and drives great powered by a SBC 30 mated to a TH350 transmission. The builder of the car insisted on a car that was sound as he wanted a reliable driver. The car was a favorite at regional car shows, and was always driven, not trailered! The braking and suspension have not been altered, and the car drives down the road as it should. The car sits on 4 brand new tires, with less than 300 miles.
The car is equipped with Vintage Air Conditioning, that is currently in need of charging. The AC adds to the overall driving pleasure this car will provide whether driving around town or on a trip. The solid stance of the car, the rumble from the dual exhaust and the attractive red and chrome will generate "thumbs-up" wherever this car goes.
