AT TIME OF LISTINGFRESHLY REVIEWED AND DETAILED In mid-1961,
Oldsmobile introduced the Starfire, a high-style, full-size model
based on the Super Eighty-Eight celebrating the GM Divisions rich
performance heritage. Aimed straight at the personal luxury market
dominated for several years by Fords Thunderbird, the Starfire
became a separate Oldsmobile series for 1962-66. In addition to
special and very tasteful exterior trim, the Starfire featured
luxurious Ninety-Eight-level interiors equipped with front bucket
seats and a center console housing a shifter for the four-speed
Hydra-Matic Drive automatic transmission and a large tachometer.
Renowned for outstanding highway performance and road manners, the
1961-64 Starfire was powered by Oldsmobiles most powerful engine,
displacing 394 CI and progressively uprated to 345 BHP and 440
pounds-feet of torque by 1964 with a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor,
10.5:1 compression, performance cam, free-breathing cylinder heads
and dual exhaust. Priced nearly $5,000 new, these premium road cars
make ideal alternatives to the far more common Fords and Chevrolets
of the era, with outstanding performance, upscale presence, and
collector-grade rarity.One of just 2,410 Starfire Convertibles
produced for 1964, this wonderful example retains its excellent and
original color combination including the majority of its
factory-original Code J Fern Mist paint finish. In addition to
front bucket seats and a sleek center console mounting a large
factory tachometer, this Starfire Convertible is nicely equipped
for cruising enjoyment with power-assisted brakes and steering,
plus power windows, plus tilt steering, a clock, and pushbutton AM
radio with power antenna. Two sets of keys, a convertible-top boot
cover, factory wire-spoke wheel covers, floor mats, and a spare
wheel/tire assembly with roadside jack round out this Starfire
nicely. Just over 68,000 miles are indicated at the time of
writing. A full review and detailing are freshly completed by The
