Convertible! - The top sales year for the Metropolitan was 1959,
with a combined production between the US and Canada of 22,209
units, helping to spur on the introduction of the Big Three\'s
(General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) new compact models. Out of the
22,209 cars produced in 1959 only 20% (about 4400) were
convertibles, It is estimated that out of those only about 10-15%
survived. Furthermore, the car has become one of the 10 best
collectibles. Notable people who own or have owned Metropolitan\'s
are Jimmy Buffett, Bridget Fonda, Greg Gutfeld, Steve Jobs,
Princess Margaret, Paul Newman, Elvis Presley, Graham Stark and
"Weird" Al Yankovic. This particular car has undergone a 4 year
$40,000 restoration! The power plant is a 1500 cc 4 cylinder engine
backed by a 3 speed standard transmission.This car is rust free and
has just passed New York state inspection with no problem. Bumpers,
bumper guards and grille surround chrome are all new and shining
brightly. Trunk floor is spotless and has a new trunk mat.All
fluids have been changed, Gas tank has been restored. Brakes,
including emergency brake, have been replaced and 5 new correct
size and type wide whitewall tires were installed. (Includes the
new tire on the spare/continental kit). New spare tire cover. Shock
absorbers and kingpins were replaced. Battery, master, clutch and
slave cylinder have all been replaced. The under body has been well
undercoated for preservationCorrect fresh new interior, carpets,
sill plates and 3 window convertible top are gorgeous!! Careful
attention was paid to the details and keeping this car as original
as possible. Even the vacuum tube AM radio works! The paint was
completely refinished in the original colors of #912 Berkshire
Green and #914 frost white. The engine is the original green with
the red fan. This has always been a convertible and was never
modified. The serial number is E64782. The model number is 561, the
body number is 64755, the engine number is 15F-N-H 6020.The car has
it's original License plates which will go with the vehicle when
