Vehicle Description
Over the past few years, many of the world's finest tri-fives have
graced our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. According to sales,
'55-'57 pro-tourers are often considered our best offerings. And
it's easy to see why when something like this incredible Bel Air, a
car that backs smooth Chevrolet Performance power with a choice Art
Morrison chassis and custom leather upholstery, gets busy casting
bright glares in our sedate photo booth. Searching for a sizzling
custom that mixes proven mechanicals with timeless appeal and great
aesthetics? Congratulations, you've found your next classic!
ONE COOL HUGGER
Sealed in a superb combination of Hugger Orange and Cool Vanilla
2-stage, this slick Bel Air is the beneficiary of a detailed,
ground-up restoration that's both clean and precise. Naturally, the
enthusiasts who massaged this post's enticing profile paid plenty
of attention to the fundamentals, but their primary focus was
creating the most perfect surfacing possible. That surfacing is
founded on timeless panels that are solid and well aligned. And
today, this Chevy rolls as a first-rate classic that mixes polished
tradition with rich customization!
Not surprisingly, this five-seven's familiar Chevy pigment creates
a fabulous foundation for a select array of choice bolt-ons. At the
front of the car, a smoothed bumper traces a polished grille,
pristine parking lamps and traditional, stainless-trimmed
headlights. At the top of that grille, a customized hood, relieved
of its retro Jetbird topper, points to electric windshield wipers.
Behind those blades, a stainless-trimmed greenhouse slides
one-piece side glass between familiar Chevrolet Sport Mirrors. At
the base of that glass, an emblem-free profile floats factory door
handles above factory Speed Spears. And at the back of the car, a
second smoothed bumper frames LED tail lamps and a shaved
decklid.
CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE POWER
Pop this Bel Air's stylish hood and you'll find a hot Chevrolet
Performance LS3 that, like the car's restoration, is fresh and
ready to roll. One of the most well rounded crate engines Chevrolet
offers, the LS376/480 utilizes aluminum construction, L92-style
heads and a racing-inspired Hot Cam to mix miles of thrills with
years of reliable cruising. And, churning stout 10.7 to 1
compression into 495 horsepower and 473 lb./ft. of torque, the
smooth-revving mill is certainly no slouch in the performance
department! A reusable filter cone caps a compact, Satin Black air
tube. Requisite serpentine components spin a modern water pump
between a muted alternator and a muted AC compressor. A heavy duty
aluminum radiator fronts quick electric puller fans. A proven
Wilwood master cylinder makes excellent use of Hydratech
hydroboost. Sleeved plug wires join Concept One power steering
components and tidy shorty headers to detail an otherwise
purpose-built performer. And everything rides in a clean, Satin
Black engine bay that's finished with trick dipsticks, a billet
expansion tank and billet Ringbrothers hood supports.
LOOKS, POWER AND ATHLETICISM
Not surprisingly, the bottom of this show worthy bowtie continues
the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology.
Satin Black floors blend seamlessly with a powder-coated Art
Morrison chassis, which is finished with dual sway bars, tubular
control arms and a full suite of adjustable coil-over-shocks.
Behind the awesome engine, a fresh 4L70E 4-speed spins a Driveshaft
Shop tube, which twists torque to a posi-traction differential and
sporty, 3.50 gears that are housed in a braced Ford axle. Turns
come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Speed gets
scrubbed by big Wilwood calipers, which cinch a total of 20 pistons
around a quartet of slotted rotors. Aluminized exhaust feeds an
H-shaped crossover, throaty Pypes mufflers and small resonators.
And all that hardware rolls on sweet Intro wheels, which spin
235/40R18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 255/45ZR18 Nitto
NT555 Extreme ZRs.
CUSTOM AND COOL
Between the doors, a custom, professionally installed cockpit
manifests as a striking combination of Brown and White leather.
Front and center, a quartet of broad buckets features full power
adjustment for the car's driver, and 3-point harnesses for all the
car's passengers. In front of those seats, a smoothed dash wraps
color-keyed billet around Dakota Digital VHX telemetry. At the base
of that dash, a custom, full-length console centers a modern
shifter between handy power window switches and a Bluetooth-capable
Kenwood head unit. Like-new carpet floats piped mats between custom
side panels and a custom headliner. The driver spins a familiar
Chevy Rally Wheel around a tilting column and billet foot pedals.
And Vintage Air climate control keeps the heat at bay.
The product of a detailed, ground-up build that would probably take
a second mortgage to duplicate, this Chevy rolls on the right side
of impressive. It's a highly desirable tri-five that's been
carefully fitted with all the right stuff to be one seriously cool
cruiser. If you're dreaming of the perfect blend of lavish '50s
style and modern, reliable performance, you've found the ultimate
classic!
