Launched in 1984, the fourth generation Corvette was a technological tour de force with out a single mechanical carryover from the long lived C3. And considering there was no 1983 model year Corvette, it was with much anticipation that the C4 Vette was brought to market. In an effort to put the Corvette back in the conversation with world class sports cars from Germany, Italy and Japan, design emphasis was placed on handling, braking and keeping the weight down. Engines and transmissions saw steady improvement through the model's 12 year run, culminating in the LT1 and LT4 versions of Chevy's venerable small block.
This final year 1996 Collector's Edition Convertible is one of just 1,381 produced. It is, in all respects, in a highly preserved state; excellent throughout. It starts easy; steers, stops and accelerates like the world class sports car that it is. Everything is in proper working order. The original Sebring Silver finish is near flawless, the seats and interior surfaces belie its 24 years. The fabric top folds easy and is in great condition.
Well maintained and mechanically unmodified, this Vette runs strong, shifts strong, sounds strong. Its refined LT1 powerplant is rated at 300 horsepower and 335 foot pounds of torque and puts that power to the ground though a 4-speed 4L60E automatic transmission rolling on massive Nitto N555 285/40-17 rear and 255/45-17 front tires. This car is bulletproof reliable, cruises like a grand tourer and with its classic slab sided styling has aged extremely well. But at the end of the day, as with all Corvettes, the C4 Corvette is all about its hard won status as America's standard bearer for high performance motoring.

Prices on C4 Corvettes run the gamut. There are lots of cheap rode hard examples, plenty of well maintained high milers that can be bought under $10k. Then there are car like this '96 Collector's Edition with barely 57k miles and in bone stock and unmolested condition that are seeing steady appreciation.
