Vehicle Description
It will go 147 miles per hour and travel the quarter mile in less
than 14 seconds. That's what a 2003 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning will
do. Stock. This one has a little extra sauce in the form of a Kenne
Bell 2.3L Supercharger and underdrive pulley, along with ARH
long-tube headers and a complete 3-inch exhaust system. Johnny
Lightning Performance applied the tune and she sings to the tune of
525 rear wheel horsepower and 550 pounds-feet of torque, an
increase of about 145 horsepower and 100 lb-ft over stock. This is
with a mild tune, there's more in it. But that great driveability
is all there. And beyond that, the truck is just plain comfortable.
At the helm, you're greeted with power steering, tilt, and power
seats with lumbar support. Enjoy a variety of entertainment with
the AM/FM/CD/DVD/MP3 touchscreen system; power windows and locks,
and cruise control; all in air-conditioned comfort. This
Lightning's performance is well-rounded with the hardware to back
up the raw power. Ford engineers originally assigned the 4R100
automatic transmission to the Super Duty half and -ton platform,
and it could handle the massive torque of a 7.3L Power Stroke
Diesel. The rear shocks are gas-charged Bilsteins, and they're
staggered to control axle hop under hard acceleration. There's also
a 5-leaf spring setup and a 23mm stabilizer bar. In front are
Bilstein gas-charged shock absorbers, SVT coil springs and a 31mm
stabilizer bar. Lightnings are lowered 1.5 inches in front and 2
inches in back compared to regular F-150s. A new-for-2003 shade
called Dark Shadow Gray sounds right for this truck and it is. The
wheels are the original aluminum 5-spoke units, but powder coated
black. Perfect. With the perfect set of tires too. 295/45ZR18 Nitto
NT555 Extreme ZR ultra performance radials lead the way with big
Nitto 305/45R18 NT555R Extreme Drag Radials in back for an
excellent extreme performance matched set. Let's not forget this is
an F-150, and you can do more than one kind of hauling. With a
payload of 1350lbs and a towing capacity of 5000 pounds, this is
one capable truck. A rugged bed liner and a handsome tonneau cover
add to the versatility. Capability, comfort, cornering, and some
serious acceleration make this 2003 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning a
great all-around package. The previous owner enjoyed it for 15
years and there are only 37,163 actual miles. In the glove box is
the owner's packet containing the original F-150 Owner's Guide plus
the SVT F-150 Lightning Owner's Guide Supplement. It proudly
proclaims that, "Every SVT vehicle produced has been designed and
developed with four key virtues in mind: Performance, Substance,
Exclusivity, and Value." This outstanding example offers a little
extra as well.
