Car History
Oldsmobile's leap into the muscle car wars was with the car called
the ''4-4-2." That name was derived from the original design of the
car which included a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual
transmission, and dual exhausts

The 1969 badging was shortened to simply ''442'', but Oldsmobile
brochures and internal documents continued to use the ''4-4-2''
model designation.
