For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS in MADISON, Mississippi

Vehicle Description

1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible

For sale is my 1968 RS Camaro convertible Serial Number 124678N409648. This is a two owner car with the first family owning it for the first 52 years. The car was bought new at a retail dealership in Yazoo City, Ms and the car stayed in that town for it’s entire life. I have it now in Madison, Ms (near Jackson, Ms which is at the intersection of I55 and I20 in Central Ms.) The car is a Rally Sport (an upgrade option) convertible with power top. It is rare in that it is a convertible top vehicle with power brakes and power steering and factory air conditioning. Of a total Camaro production in 1968 of 235147 only 16927 were convertible V8 models and only a very few had these power and a/c options.

The car is very original. It has it’s original matching numbers V8 engine, a 327 cubic inch engine with 2 barrel carburetor and rated at 210 horsepower with a 8.5 compression ratio. The transmission is also the original a 2 speed Powerglide automatic (127165 Camaros came with that transmission.) There are approximately 106000 miles on the car. It has not been driven over 8000 miles in the last 20 years. But drive it does and very well too. It cranks, runs, shifts, drives and stops quite well. The Rally Sport option included a deluxe interior, extra badging and hidden headlights (which open when the lights are switched on.) This vacuum headlight system has been rebuilt and works well.

I own a classic car restoration business (Classic Restorations, LLC) and we had done extensive work on the car for the previous owners. This original family that owned the car was the Holmes family from Yazoo City, Ms. We had done condsiderable work on the Camaro prior to my purchase of the car in May 2020. We had done the following among other things:

Rebuilt the brake system with new rubber lines, shoes, hardware, master cylinder (4 wheel drum brakes)

Replaced the body bushing (polyurethane)

Radiator recore ($400+)

New exhaust tailpipes

New battery

New starter solenoid

Rebuild of A/C system with new compressor, condenser, POA valve, hoses, dryer, etc.) Blows cold

New engine belts

New motor mounts

New Transmission mounts

New Pittman arm

New fuel sender

Rebuilt the carburetor.

The tires have less than 2000 miles on them and were new in 2013.

We have all the service records on the car from 1992 forward. The car is very dependable. Very smooth and easy to drive.

The front end was completely rebuilt in 2012 and has less than 3000 miles on it.

After I bought it I upgraded the Camaro is this manner:

Replaced the seat covers with the correct Deluxe interior including new seat cushions for both front seats. The door panels had been previously replaced as had the carpet which remain in good condition.

Rebuilt the headlight vacuum system so it operates correctly

Replaced the old steel wheels with correct Rally wheels and center caps

Had the original radio rebuilt and it operates well

New headlight switch

New spare tire

New correct vinyl floor mat and spare tire cover.

In addition we repainted the car (June 2020). The original paint was Code GG Ash Green. The Holmes painted it white about 20 years ago and we repainted the old tired white in a matching white (base coat clear coat with Metaluxe brand materials). The paint is (to us) about a 9.5 on a 10 scale. This car is and has been rust free (except a floor pan on the passenger side was replaced 20+ years ago as water leaked into the floor) See the photos of the bottom to see that this is a rust free vehicle.  The convertible top was replaced about 20 years ago. There are two tears in the interior headliner material.

This is a rare, highly optioned original car that is also an excellent, dependable driver. Please direct any questions or requests for more information to Mike Martin 601-906-1196 or [email protected]. The car is in Madison, Ms. and can been seen and driven there.
