The end of the great ones! 1984 ended a long run of big, luxurious rear-wheel drive Oldsmobile 98’s. I am not sure if they made another two door, either. If you like big Oldsmobiles, like I do, this may be the car for you.
This car was purchased new in Southern California. We have lots of documentation and even the window decal. There is an envelope containing brochures and purchase information and another containing maintenance records and fuel purchase records.
The original owners eventually moved to WI, but by then, the car was collectible. It has not been driven in winter since it came to WI. It was eventually traded in. The second owner purchased it for recreational use. When the original owner moved to WI from California, the mileage was recorded as actual mileage on the title. At that time, the odometer read 82,845. In the sixteen years since the second owner has cared for this car, he has added to the odometer reading and it now stands at 95,857. Legally, this car is exempt from odometer disclosure. And most likely, your new title will show the car as EXEMPT. And that is how it is being sold.
As I assessed the condition of the car, there was no doubt in my mind that this car has not only been driven less than 96,000 miles, but that is has been well cared for. Other than some wearable parts, such as tires, this car is completely original. The paint is original. The interior is not only original, it is in phenomenal condition. Both owners were careful to preserve this car. In fact, the first owner’s wife hand sewed beautiful covers for the front and rear dashes. They are with the car.
The Ninety Eight Regency is a well-appointed car. This car is nicely optioned. It has the usual power equipment with the addition of a six way power seat, power antenna, power trunk release, power windows and power locks. It has tilt steering, cruise control and air conditioning. There is an AM/FM/Cassette stereo.
Additional options include tinted glass, pulse wipers, landau roof, courtesy lamps, rear defogger, remote outside mirrors, litter receptacle, handling package, gauge package, reminder package, fender skirts, locking wire wheel covers and door edge moldings. And believe it or not, the original GM floor mats are with the car and are in nice condition. This car also has the full-sized spare tire.
The paint is called Light Royal Blue Metallic. The Landau top is Dark Royal Blue. The upholstery is a medium blue Prima Velour.
The comfort is exceptional. The pillowed and tufted upholstery is better than your recliner at home. The fabric is soft and in great condition. Between the comfort of the seats and the way the car rides, it is obvious that you are traveling in luxury.
In recent years, the second owner has continued to offer this car great care. The front end has been rebuilt as has the suspension. New brakes and bearings were installed. The matching set of five Michelin radials has just a few miles on them.
The 307 Oldsmobile V8 starts and acts just like it should. It shows no sign of being worn out. It was been routinely serviced. The 200r4 overdrive automatic transmission performs as it should. The most recent owner reports fuel economy ranging from 22-28, depending on driving conditions. That is impressive, when you consider the size of this car.
All features work properly with exception of the power antenna.
You will be getting all the afore-mentioned documents, literature and manuals. There are two sets of keys. There is a spare and full jack kit. The original trunk upholstery is very nice.
This is the Last Big 98. And the last rear wheel drive 98. An end of an era. Here is your chance!
