Those letters, GXP, are important. They mean that this 2008 Pontiac
Solstice packs a punch. And this one still does, as this pristine
example has logged a mere 10,702 adult-driven miles. With a 2.0L
Ecotec DOHC engine equipped with a dual scroll turbocharger and
charge air cooler that spools out 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of
torque, the Solstice GXP was positioned among the world's great
sports cars. Indeed, at 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch, this was the
highest specific output of all GM engines up to that time,
infringing on muscle car territory. Fuel is injected directly into
the cylinders with the innovative Spark Ignition Direct Injection
allowing a higher compression ratio. Pontiac claimed the 0-60 time
of 5.4 seconds was quicker than a Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4, or an
Audi TT Roadster. In Wide-track Pontiac tradition, the company also
pointed out that their Solstice had a wider track than a Boxster.
The 5L40-E 5-speed automatic is performance tuned so that the car
runs the same zero to sixty time whether it's equipped with the
manual or the automatic transmission. A limited slip differential
assures that all the power gets to the ground. Handling prowess is
built into the design, as the car has forged aluminum double
wishbone suspension with coil-over monotube Bilstein shocks.
Hydroformed tubes eliminate welds resulting in a high
strength-to-weight ratio. Power rack and pinion steering and large
four-wheel disc brakes provide performance-level effectiveness and
positive feedback. A sophisticated StabiliTrak system with
Competition Mode gives you precision command and control in all
driving environments. Pure (Summit White) is a great convertible
color, and the cloth interior is comfortable in warm or cold
weather. Comfort reigns here. Unlike the spartan sports cars of the
past, the Solstice is well-equipped. Air conditioning, power
windows with one touch down, cruise control, tilt wheel, and a rich
sounding AM/FM/CD audio system with aux input and satellite
capability prove you can enjoy modern comfort and convenience along
with true sports car performance. Extra care went into finishing
details such as highly polished dual exhaust outlets, bright pedals
and performance footrest, handsome chrome 5-spoke 18-inch wheels,
and a rear spoiler. BFGoodrich g-Force Comp 2 Z-rated high
performance tires complement the suspension and chassis for a
sure-footed yet comfortable ride. Pontiac will long be remembered
for the GTO, the Trans Am, Bonneville, Catalina, and many more. The
Solstice has earned its share of fans as well. And deservedly so,
as Pontiac went to great lengths to create an innovative package
with performance and looks to rival offerings from anywhere in the
