1968 Porsche 912 Coupe
• VIN 1280XXXX
• One Owner
• California Car
On November 21st, 1967, this 912 was purchased for $5,647.40 from
Cotton Goff Volkswagen Porsche in Buena Park, California. Serviced
at Cotton Goff until 1969 and other independent Porsche shops in
Orange County over the years. The engine and transmission were both
rebuilt by Andial Porsche Service in California. In 2012, the
carburetors and distributor were rebuilt along with a valve
adjustment by Orange Independent in Orange, California. EC has done
a recent service and this 912 is ready to enjoy!
Finished in its original factory color combination of Slate Grey
(6801) with Black upholstery. Solid original floor pans and front
suspension with excellent gaps and panel fit. The paintwork is in
good condition with rock chips on the front hood. The interior is
original and well preserved with a brushed aluminum dash and the
original AM/FM Blaupunkt radio.
Mechanically the 1600cc matching engine runs strong with a 4-speed
manual transmission. Complete with the original invoice when sold
new, maintenance record booklet, personal logbook, owner's manual,
records from 1967-2017, spare tire, jack, tool kit, and a Porsche
912 service guide. A rare opportunity to own a well-documented 912
finished in a very desirable color combination.
As production of the 356-model concluded in late 1965, Porsche
officially began production of the 912 Coupe. Styling, performance,
quality construction, reliability, and price made the 912 a very
attractive buy to both new and old customers, and it substantially
outsold the 911 during the first few years of production. Porsche
produced nearly 30,000 912 units.
1968 Porsche updated the 912 with a unique interior featuring black
and white gauges, a padded dash, and doors with integrated door
pockets and armrests. This gave the 912 the same interior that the
911 enjoyed. Other 68 only features included side reflectors and
for the first time, an exhaust emissions system that required an
external belt-driven pump.
