For Sale: 1968 Mercedes-Benz 250SL in BOISE, Idaho

Vehicle Description

Let me introduce you to Herbie. Herbie has been with the family for nearly 50 years. This is as close to one owner as you can get. I inherited this wonderful 250sl from my father and have the original title. It was purchased new in Boise, Idaho in 1968. It has spent its life garaged in this semi-arid area. I believe herbie is all original paint and convertible top. There is an optional hardtop with stand, all tools, handbooks, original steering wheel (Nardi is installed), original seat belts that have been updated, aftermarket wind deflector, and car cover. The car had a valve job at around 110,000 miles.  It really runs goid and can be a daily driver. I take it out once a month for exercise. I've spent over $10,000 on maintenance, replacements  and updates. You will notice the headrests. They are  from a 1969 280 SL plus the right side mirror. The aftermarket radio has a retro look but offers modern amenities. There are 8 inch speakers under the seats with twin tweeters and 6.5 inch speakers in the foot wells. Nothing has been cut to make room for the stereo. All the gauges including the clock were removed and sent out for refurbishing. There are new bushings in the transmission, power steering pump, turn signal stock, convertible top cables, tires, boot lid cover, heater controls and cables, pivot tube, clutch switch,  electronic ignition, new master cylinders, brake cylinder, driver seat rebuilt with new horsehair, every belt, filter, gasket, and hose replaced, recent valve adjustment, and new battery plus major tune-up plus more. There is some minor rust spots which I am including with the photos. There is cracking on dash top only above speedo and tachometer. A dash cover is included. There is oil dripping slowly from a couple of the seals including the rear seal and oil pan seal. I've been living with these slow drips and it has not been a problem since the car gets serviced every year with only maybe 500 miles driven during that year. Compression believed to be excellent.  Herbie sips only about one half quart of oil every 1200 miles.  I am selling only because of my age and difficulty shifting a manuel and getting in and out of a sports car.  I  would like to buy a new E series cabriolet.
