Believed to originally have been a Cranberry red 396 car with a 4 speed (with some evidence that the car may have actually been an automatic). The car does not retain its original drivetrain. Currently has a Chevy 12 bolt rear end, th400 trans, and a 496 stroker motor. Motor has roughly 1000 miles on it and runs. Motor, trans, and rear end are not period correct. Body, frame, trunk, and floors are solid and in good shape for its age. Current color on the car is Orange, and the body has no visible rust however there is some bondo/filler present.
While I have searched in the past, as of right now I do not possess the build sheet (and as the car has been repainted, I personally don't believe the sheet is any longer with the car). Car has many items present that point to it being born an SS and at least 2 authenticators I have spoken to over the years believe the car to be an SS as well. This is an Atlanta built car that spent its 1st years in California. I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle and have had it in my possession for nearly 20 years. The car has only seen rain twice in those 20 years, and never seen snow since I have owned it. Vehicle has been garage kept at all times during my time with it and rarely driven.
The current status of the car is that it’s a project and inoperable due to the breaks being out –the motor makes 10:1 compression and needs a new vacuum pump break booster (old one no longer working). Transmission leaking, and fly wheel needs to be replaced as it is missing some teeth. Wiring also needs to be redone all through the car (front and back harness), gauge cluster not working. Outside of those issues I am not aware of anything else the car is in dire need of to work. The car does start and run strong but will need a tune up and the engine should be gone through as it has mostly sat for long periods over the years and was never properly broken in. All that said, this is a really solid car with good bones that would either be a good candidate for a period correct restoration, or finished turning into a hotrod.
After owning this car for as long as I have -and having learned as much as I have about the 70 Chevelles- I am setting the price at what I believe to be more than fair. These cars have become very expensive and are amongst the most collected and sought after muscle cars in the world. This is not currently a perfect numbers matching car, but it is a very healthy base for anyone who wants to own one at a fair price point considering where the market currently resides. So it goes without saying, serious buyers only. Cash in hand, and the car will have to be trailered -I am also not looking to ship this car so buyer will need to have the means to transport.
