For Sale: 1963 Studebaker Lark in Shaker Heights, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Throughout the early 1960s, Studebaker's compact-sized Lark offered buyers several options.  From the thrifty "Skybolt Six" six grocery getter to the Avanti-powered supercharged V-8, whatever your need, Lark had an answer.  Of the performance-oriented persuasion is this sporty, ultra-rare 1963 Super Lark Daytona Skytop clone.  Just 30 1963 Skytop Larks were produced, making this seldom-seen Studebaker one highly prized by collectors.

The ultimate sleeper, this Super Lark is powered by a Paxton-supercharged 289 CID V-8 R2 engine mated to a Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed manual transmission and 3.31 rear-end.  This powertrain generates an impressive 289 horsepower and 303 ft-lbs of torque in stock form.  Other performance enhancements included with the factory "Super Performance Package" comprise the following:

  • Forged steel crankshaft
  • Forged connecting rods
  • Forged rockers
  • Solid lifters
  • Gear-driven cam
  • Carter 625-cfm AFB 4-barrel carburetor
  • Dual point distributor
  • Dana 44 axle
  • “Twin-Traction” differential
  • Dual exhaust
  • Front A-arm suspension with heavy-duty coil springs
  • Front sway bar
  • 11” power front disc brakes
  • Heavy-duty cooling system
  • 160 MPH speedometer

Best of all, this Super Lark runs and drives as well as it looks.

Refinished in Ermine White, its finish has a beautiful luster.  Its black Skyroof top is in excellent condition, and functions as it should.  The chrome and bright-work are also in excellent condition.  The distinctive Mercedes-inspired Lark front end, Daytona-package fender moldings and "R2" badging offer plenty of pop.  American Racing Torq Thrust wheels and brand-new tires complete the look.

This Super Lark's interior is equally sporty, featuring White and Rosemist bucket seats and a center console.  The seating areas, dash board, and interior door panels are all in excellent condition, as is the rest of the interior. A full complement of well-organized and easy-to-read gauges, including a tachometer, will keep you informed about what's going on under the hood.  You'll also appreciate the convenience of its AM radio and optional "Exclusive Beauty Vanity," providing a glove-box installed vanity mirror and makeup tray.

Resulting from the marriage of a Super Lark-equipped chassis and R2 engine and a Lark Daytona with a Skyroof, this clone was the creation of John Metzke, who served as the technical advisor to Turning Wheels Magazine, the official publication of the Studebaker's Driver's Club.  It has been featured in Collectible Automobile magazine and has won awards at the South Bend Studebaker Meet.  Currently part of a long-time Studebaker owner's collection since 2001, this car has always received the best of care.  Other Studebakers from this collection are also available, as pictured.  Please inquire.

Minor imperfections do not detract from the overall appearance of this car.  Included with sale is the original owner's manual and sales brochure.

If an ultra-rare 1960s sleeper is what you desire, this 1963 Super Lark clone is the car for you!
