Vehicle Description
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback has race-inspired sleek looks,
vintage appeal, and proper V8 power under the hood. It all makes
for a classic hardtop of distinction.
It's always a cool story to tell how the 1964 Galaxie got its sleek
roofline. Ford wanted to do better at NASCAR, and since this was a
true stock car series back then, they created this aerodynamic look
that gives this coupe less drag. Plus, the sweeping full-length
side trim, afterburner-style taillights, dual gunsight hood
ornaments, and raised white letter tires all seem to add to this
sporty side. But there's more going on here than just performance.
This Galaxie 500 has a true elegance that comes from a high quality
respray later in life of the factory-correct Skylight Blue paint.
It has a terrific luster that's also smooth to the touch. And the
white roof draws added attention the special hardtop while also
giving this one a nice two-tone appeal. The straight sheetmetal,
complete brightwork, two-piece wheel trim, intricate grille, and so
much more make this a quality total package.
The sea of blue continues inside. While the cool roof design was
great for racing, the full-size Galaxie built its everyday
reputation on being the kind of car that can fit everyone
comfortably. This is very much an original-style presentation, so
while you may find a few places to improve, there's also something
quite special about the intricate two-tone on the door panels and
the way the AM radio is still cranking out tunes. In fact, this one
is really nice for vintage cruising. The seat is comfy, the classic
steering wheel feels grippy in your hands, and the crisp factory
gauge panel is supplements by a useful oil pressure readout.
This is an X-code coupe, and so it's great to see a proper 352
cubic-inch V8 under the hood. The block, valve covers, and air
topper all have that unmistakable Ford blue radiating from within
the dark engine bay. This shows well and also has the right signs
of good maintenance, including a newer distributor cap, wires, and
ignition coil. And the way this V8 fires up readily reaffirms the
quality care it has been given. This inhales deeply with a
four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a nice tune as shorty
headers feed the dual exhaust. It's the kind of total package
that's made for driving, and so you'll really appreciate nice
features like the three-speed automatic transmission, power
steering, and power brakes.
