Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1988 BMW E28 "527is." This
build began with a very clean, southern, rust-free 528e "super eta"
in largely original paint with reasonable mileage, clean CarFax and
all vin tags in place - starting with excellent bones was a top
priority. From there the car was transformed; an extensive build
sheet is provided but we'll touch on the highlights. Nearly every
mechanical system has been replaced or rebuilt along with a
cosmetic refurbishment.
The engine was built into a 2.7 liter "M20 B27" using the super eta
block and a 2.5i head. The build included an Ireland Engineering
284 cam, Cometic head gasket, ARP head bolts, RHD individual
throttle bodies, Megasquirt engine management and Innovate wide
band O2. Of course it also got a valve job / top end rebuild with
reinforced rockers, timing belt, cooling system rebuild, and a
bottom end reseal. A five-speed Getrag 260 transmission was
installed along with new mounts, clutch and hydraulics, driveshaft
and shift linkage. It is mated to a 3.25:1 limited slip
differential with new mounts and new cv axles. The build also
included a front big-brake upgrade, hoses and rebuilt rear
brakes.
Bilstien B8 dampers and Ground Control Coilovers were fitted and
most suspension and steering components were replaced. Beautiful
Style 5 17-inch BBS wheels were installed with custom center caps;
they are wearing nearly new tires.
Cosmetic refurbishment / upgrades included Euro headlights, BMP
bumpers, reupholstered seats (in leather) with front Recaro sport
seats, E12 door handles. A mostly crack-free dash was also
installed along with a nice M-tech steering wheel.
This car runs, drives and sounds fantastic. The chassis is superbly
balanced and feels remarkably tight - free of creaks, rattles or
other unpleasantries. The M20 is peaky and strong with a great
intake note, not to mention that it looks like jewelry when you
open the hood. As clean, rust-free, reasonable mileage E28s become
increasingly hard to find we appreciate cars as solid as this one
and the time and money invested to turn it into something really
special. Build sheet, dyno numbers and complete tools are
included.
