Vehicle Description
1971 Buick Grand Sport Stage 1 Tribute - True GS (Originally 350ci
w/4Speed) - 455ci V8 added to create GS Stage 1 TRIBUTE - Awesome
Condition - Lots of Documentation - (Please note: If you happen to
be viewing this vehicle on a website other than our main website,
it's possible that only some of our many photographs of this car
are presented due to website limitations. To be sure you access all
the photographs, please go to our main website: Garage Kept
Motors.) Want to stand out from the Chevelles, 442s, and GTOs of
the same era? This Grand Sport may just be the car for you! This
Stage 1 Tribute has all the goodies of a real deal Stage 1 without
the high price, and possible reluctance to drive it often. This car
is ready to enjoy! The car originally left the Flint production
plant finished in Green over a Lime Mist interior, with a 350ci V8
mated to a 4-Speed manual transmission. The vehicle was painted
white and had a black interior added by the second owner, who used
the car as a daily driver. After years of regular use the car sat
until it was purchased by a gentleman with a vision for the car - a
full restoration, with the end product being a Stage 1 GS Tribute.
That vision was realized in 2006 when the restoration was completed
by an experienced shop, and the car was back on the road as a very
convincing Stage 1 Tribute. All the details are there! During the
restoration, the car was painted in DuPont San Marino Red. As you
can see from our photos, the color of the car is stunning. The
paint is bright and glossy, and trim is all present, although some
of it shows a little age, like the grille surround and the bumpers.
Updated grille trim and re-chroming the bumpers would make this car
absolutely jaw dropping, and it may even pass as a GS that just
rolled off the Buick dealer's showroom floor. The interior is in
amazing condition. All the details were gone over during the
restoration process. Among the many interior features, a few of the
highlights are: tilt 3 spoke steering wheel, front bench seat with
integrated armrest, tachometer, Hurst shifter, wood grain trim, and
OE Buick radio. While the restoration on the body and interior was
being done, the engine was getting an overhaul of its own. As we
mentioned earlier, this car was originally a Grand Sport with a
350ci V8 mated to a 4 speed. Keeping the goal of a Stage 1 GS in
his crosshairs, the gentleman who had the car restored made sure a
455ci V8 mated to a Muncie M20 replaced the 350 when the time came.
The 455 was built from the ground up with new main bearings, rod
bearings, cam bearings, rocker arms, piston rings, timing chain,
belts, hoses, lines, and cables. A fully restored Stage 1 Buick 4
BBL Quadrajet carburetor was placed atop the intake manifold and
Stage 1 valve covers were added, keeping with the Stage 1 Tribute
plan. All in all the engine rebuild cost in the neighborhood of
$10k, and we're told this car is f-a-s-t. In addition to the engine
rebuild and upgrades, the car has upgraded suspension, disc brakes,
and quick ratio steering. A 3.42 positraction rear end, Pertronix
electronic ignition, and Doug's ceramic headers are other
powertrain highlights. Stand out from the rest of the muscle cars
of the era with this GS Stage 1 Tribute. It's a beautiful car that
has been restored to a high standard, and with all the details of a
Stage 1 GS. Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our
