For Sale: 1953 MG TD in Collingwood, Ontario

Vehicle Description

Beautifully restored 1953 MG TD.

A true work of art. Never been in rain or snow.

This TD has been amazingly restored and drives like new! All restoration work was done to MG specifications. A MG TD Workshop Manual is included. This was the Workshop Manual used to complete the restoration, including complete price lists of all parts acquired for the build. Truly a work of art and a display of dedication.

The 10 year restoration project was completed 5 years ago. This TD was fully restored from the ground up and was documented through pictures the whole way by the first Canadian owner of the vehicle (history before is unknown). A complete photo album accompanies this beauty TD, displaying every step of the restoration through photos.

Comes with an assortment of accessories: Tonneau Cover, Top Cover, Side Windows, Wiper System, plus many spare parts.

Current owner (and only second owner of this TD) has owned the car for a very limited time, less than 2 months, and will be upgrading to a larger British classic car for daily driving.

MG produced their T-Type cars from the mid-1930s until the mid-1950s. These were purpose built, no frills, sports cars. The cars used a simple body on frame construction as well as a basic front engine, rear drive configuration which driving enthusiasts love. In this case it's a 1,250cc inline 4 cylinder with dual carburetors. Couple this with a 4-speed manual transmission and a set of steel wheels with radial tires. The exterior is a gorgeous red with black upholstery interior. This is a great car for any MG enthusiast or collector.

The successor to the popular MG TC, the TD was first constructed in 1949 with MG eyeing the North American market who previously fell in love with the sporty appeal of the TC. Improvements over its predecessor were plentiful with the TD being five inches wider (for more room in the passenger compartment) while front independent suspension as well as rack and pinion steering greatly improved handling. Smaller wheels with bigger tires allowed for more refined front fenders while a now standard 4-speed gearbox allowed for higher speed cruising. The hand-built quality of the TD added to the charm and production of the model lasted until 1953. A perfect combination of pre-war style with post-war performance, the TD helped to solidify MG’s reputation as a sports car company. Today the MG TD is still perceived as a charming British roadster with timeless appeal. It is no wonder why examples are respected and collected in both professional and enthusiast circles.
