Beginning as a concept show car in 2000, the Chevrolet design team
created a Super Sport Roadster to highlight a performance inspired
pickup for the Detroit Auto Show. Both spectators and GM executives
provided a positive response to the hardtop retractable roadster,
but Chevrolet held off production until late 2003 offering it as a
2004 production vehicle. Initially fitted with a 5.3L Vortec V8, it
wasn't long before the horsepower hungry buyers convinced the GM
brass that the long-lived Chevrolet Super Sport namesake deserved a
more appropriate power plant. So, in came the Corvette LS2 6.0L all
aluminum V8 in 2005! This new heartbeat was only mildly detuned to
390bhp and mated to 4-speed overdrive automatic, or a Tremec
6-speed manual transmission. To handle the power, the chassis was
fitted with an independent front suspension, 5-link rear
suspension, front & rear sway bars, tuned shock absorbers,
staggered wheels measuring 255/45R19 up front & 295/40R20 at the
rear, and a 3.73 limited-slip differential. Sales improved with
this novel truck to Chevy enthusiasts, but only 24,112 units found
garages during their short 3-year run. Today, they continue to
receive easy head-turning appeal with performance that will
surprise any driver once behind the wheel!
Offered here is a 2005 Chevrolet SSR convertible pickup finished in
factory correct Redline Red over Ebony Leather interior. Features
include a LS2 6.0L V8, automatic transmission, air conditioning,
power 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, power retractable roof,
power windows & locks, power heated outside mirrors, cruise
control, Bose premium AM/FM/6-disc in dash CD changer, power truck
bed cover release, keyless entry, and tilt steering column.
Optional equipment on this stunning truck include factory upgraded
chrome wheels, auxiliary console gauges, cargo compartment wood
trim, SSR carpeted floor mats, appointments for a tow hitch, and a
rear cargo net.
Having sold new to the first owner located in Weatherford, TX in
August 2005, this owner would enjoy the SSR for exactly 2 years,
adding approximately 3,000 miles to the odometer. It then sold to a
Bullard, TX collection in July 2007 where it would remain until the
St. Louis Car Museum would acquire it in June 2020. This second
owner wanted to personalize this truck to his own performance
tastes, and since GM had a warranty approved Magnuson Radix LS2
Magnacharger system, this intercooled supercharger would be
installed in February 2008 and dyno-tuned by Speedzone Performance
to 412 rear-wheel horsepower and 433 lb. ft. of torque! A new
84-month/100k mile extended warranty through Peltier Chevrolet
based in Tyler, TX would go into effect in September 2008 at 4,056
miles on the odometer.
It would be owned and cared for professionally within a fantastic
car collection ever since! Today, the odometer just turned 6,005
miles, and it continues to perform perfectly in every respect!
