Purchased by me in December, 2018 from the original owner, Charles Thierman of Madison, NJ, who ordered the car from Ruffu Motors, Atlantic City, NJ in the summer of 1954 when he inherited $2500 from his late grandmother. Mr Thierman picked up his red Austin-Healey 100 from the dock in Elizabeth, NJ in early 1955. Family historical anecdotes and photos included.
Three-year concours correct rotisserie restoration completed from January, 2010 to August, 2012 at mileage 54,737 by Netcong Auto Restorations, NJ. Full documentation and receipts ($142,600) included. See restoration video @ https://Netcong auto restorations.com
This car participated in the Mountain Mille vintage auto rally in May, 2019. Over one thousand spirited miles were covered in five days. The car ran perfectly, and won a "best of" award.
*Period hard-top (1950's vintage) in good condition.
*New soft top. *Stainless steel exhaust system.
*New Side curtains. *Period-correct 3" racing seatbelts (originals included).
*New tonneau cover. *New fitted car cover. *New Vredestein Sprint Special tires.
*Chrome 48 spoke wire wheels (4). *Original 48 spoke painted wire wheels (5) included.
*Single modern 12-volt battery (positive earth) in place of factory dual 6-volt batteries.
This BN1 looks, runs, and drives perfectly. The engine was fully balanced, blueprinted, and rebuilt 2,059 miles ago to include hardened valve seats and modern seals. The SU carburetors were rebuilt, and are beautifully tuned. The starter motor and generator were rebuilt new. The three-speed gearbox and electronic overdrive (on second and third gears) were rebuilt and function perfectly, shifting smoothly up and down all gears. The electric overdrive is a joy (see driving video). The brakes, steering, and ride are responsive and refined. The car starts easily from cold (see cold start video), showing 50-55 psi of oil pressure, and is able to be driven off smoothly without choke, right away. When fully warm, the car shows 45 psi of oil pressure at idle, and water temperature of 170 F (see video). ALL electrics function perfectly.
Minor detractors ... *small 1" paint blemish (crack) on left side of the boot (trunk) near the prop-up. *small 1/2" paint blemish (chip) - repaired - on the rear edge of driver's door. (see photos)
This Austin-Healey 100 is an early example of the BN1 as it came from the factory, unspoiled by later BN2 LeMans accessories - originality that is increasingly hard to find. It is a wonderful and correctly presented example that can be reliably enjoyed while appreciating in value.
