Body off the frame, rotisserie restored to excellent condition.
Just purchased 3 outstanding cars from a collector in Alabama, this
is one of them.
The 409 is legendary, even immortalized in a song by the Beach
Boys. The 425 hp version was an absolute beast, more horsepower
than cubic inches.
EXTERIOR: Show quality. Always a southern car. Built in Atlanta, I
bought it in Alabama. The body is outstanding. Both sides are
straight. Smooth all along the bottoms, there are no bubbles. The
panels fit square and flush. The beautiful silver metallic has a
very glossy clear coat finish. It has a lot of depth like you could
reach your arm into it. The trim is exceptional. Upfront the grill,
emblem, bumper is excellent. The stainless trim around the glass,
rain gutters and on top of the doors is straight and polished. New
chrome bow tie mirror on each side, new door handles. The SS trim
down each side has the machine turned inserts, it's in excellent
shape. It has the optional rear mount antenna and fuel door trim,
both look new. In back the tail panel, bumper, bumper guards are
excellent. Door jambs are painted glossy, new weatherstrips, window
seals and sill plates. Glass is very good, windows fit nice. New
windshield. New 15 inch Cragar wheels give it that old school
muscle look, especially being fatter in back.
INTERIOR: Love that red interior, it really pops against the silver
exterior. It is a factory bucket seat, center console car. Also has
optional padded dash and tachometer. The entire dash area is
restored beautifully. All the chrome and trim sparkles, the metal
is painted real nicely, dash pad is new, lenses and instruments are
excellent. New glovebox liner, has owner's manual. New carpet and
carpeted floor mats, there are some baggy wrinkles on the center
hump. Very nice original 4-speed console. The seats have been
reupholstered, door panels have been replaced. Up above the mirror,
visers and headliner were replaced. Headliner fits nice and tight.
Over all the trim, kick panels, window cranks, armrest bases are
all really nice.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is a beast of a motor- 409 with
425 horsepower. It features a factory aluminum intake with two big
4-barrel carbs. The motor was remachined, runs smooth, runs strong.
All the components look restored- wiper motor, alternator,
brackets, pulleys, master cylinder, washer bottle, wiring harness
etc. Has correct glass fuel bowl, chrome w-shaped valve covers and
the big dual snorkel chrome air cleaner. New clutch fan, larger
radiator radiator with a slant top which was unique to 409 only.
Has correct spring clamp battery cables. The metal is all clean,
painted neatly. radiator support the firewall inner fenders are all
clean metal painted in a satin black. The casting numbers on the
back of the block are specific to the 1963 409 motor, the numbers
on the front do match the car.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: All clean metal with a gray and white spatter
finish paint. New three piece trunk mat. The spare rim and jack are
painted up real nice, has a new tire. The bottom of the trunk lid
and jamb are glossy silver. New decal and weatherstrip. Also
included is a set of original SS hubcaps, in really nice shape.
UNDERSIDE: Wow, it's extraordinarily clean. The body was moved from
the frame and placed on a rotisserie, then flipped on its side. The
bottom of this car appears to have completely dry, rust free
original metal. The inner rockers, floor pans, braces, lower
quarter panels are all smooth and clean. Sprayed with zinc
phosphate primer. The chassis was completely taken down to a bare
frame, no rust. It was cleaned and painted satin black. The front
suspension and steering was completely rebuilt. New springs, ball
joints, bushings, shocks and power steering parts. Rear suspension
is new- bushings, springs, shocks. Has The components are detailed
in the proper finishes, has assembly line markings on the springs.
Brake system is completely restored, has metallic linings. E-brake
system is new. New fuel system-tank, straps, lines and sending
unit. All new correct exhaust system, neatly runs along the X
frame. Even the bottom of the motor is spotless. Fuel pump,
starter, flywheel cover look new. The T-10 4-speed trans and
linkage look fresh. The body was reunited with the chassis with new
bushings. Very impressive under this car.
This 409 is real fine. The 425 hp is legendary. This is one of the
best examples there are. Someone will really enjoy this car.
