This 1987 Chevrolet Silverado 454 SS feels like a cool look into
what might have been had GM woken up to modern muscle trucks
sooner. This is a seriously cool build with a custom look, sporty
A/C interior, and serious big block power under the hood. So it's

We love it when this generation of Silverado is done for a
performance look. After all, it might have a beefy/boxy stance, but
there's also an extra hint of flare in the fenders that's just
begging to be amplified. So now this one has smoother lines with a
custom integrated front bumpers, billet grille, flush rear roll
pan, frenched taillights, and an aerodynamic tonneau cover. Plus,
the cowl hood with 454 callout, custom rear fender callout, and
Ridler 20-inch wheels make this unmistakably sporty. And the full
custom package is dipped in a modern blue that has an electric
level of shine. It all makes for a truck that instantly gets
noticed even without hearing the roar of the exhaust.
Inside is custom comfort with a sporty feel. This starts with the
seats. This has been upgraded to dual high-back buckets with a cup
holder and armrest in-between. The black on the carpeting custom
door panels, and headliner all match in color and quality. There
are more nice details, like how the blue stitching on the sports
steering wheel coordinates with the dash accenting and blue
interior lighting. And it all goes with the full exterior paint.
The side vent windows and sliding rear glass give you the kind of
breeze through the cab that only a vintage truck can offer. And any
time that's not enough, the air conditioning is blowing cold with
modern R134a.
Big block power fits into the engine bay nicely. While a 454
cubic-inch motor would already be a nice upgrade for most of us,
this custom truck want to lives up to its Super Sport label. So the
big V8 has nice upgrades like a Holley four-barrel carburetor,
Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake, fabricated polished valve covers,
and headers feeding the growling dual exhaust. It makes for quite a
powerful pickup. The TH400 three-speed transmission is stout enough
to handle all the muscle while also delivering easy automatic
shifting. This truck also gives you nice driving features like
power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, and the grip of
modern performance tires.
Complete with owner's manual, Chevy would bring out a 454 SS in the
next-gen Silverado, but this one explores what they could/should
