Vehicle Description
The Cyclone carried the banner for Mercury in motorsports during
the muscle car era. This 1968 Fastback design was so successful in
NASCAR racing, that it spawned the "aero wars" in which the major
manufacturers released increasingly radical designs to outdo each
other on the superspeedways. Big name drivers like Cale Yarborough
and Dan Gurney wheeled these cars into the history books. This 1968
Mercury Cyclone Fastback is set up for maximum enjoyment on the
street utilizing the tried and true 302 cubic inch V8 with a Holley
4-barrel on top, and a four speed manual transmission with the
factory floor shifter. That coveted V8 muscle car sound emanates
from the dual pipes equipped with Magnaflow mufflers. Finned
aluminum Mickey Thompson valve covers and a chrome air cleaner
offer a sprinkle of hot rod vibe under the hood. Power steering and
power front disc brakes add to the driveability factor. The car is
finished in medium blue metallic with white GT stripes at the belt
line and the axle line with GT emblems on the front fenders. The
interior will bring back memories or take you back in time. A thick
wood rimmed steering wheel sets the mood and it feels great, while
a column mounted tach and Sunpro gauges are both attractive and
functional. The wheels are the correct Styled Steel GT Wheels with
raised outline white letter radial tires. A 1968 Mercury Cyclone is
a rare find today, and this one has been driven only 231 miles
since being restored. Now's the time to bring out your hidden Cale
Yarborough.
