at a list price of over $2,500; the most expensive car of the
entire Chevrolet line up in 1955 apart from the Corvette and for
good reason! The 1955-57 Nomad wagon is the most probably the most
iconic wagon ever built and certainly a legend amongst surfing
enthusiasts and fifties classic car collectors all over the world!
The two door Nomad was one of Harley Earls 'Dream Cars' and more
reminiscent of a two door hardtop than any other station wagon,
with the roof design borrowed from a 1954 Motorama show car, opened
up rear wheels wells and a striped tailgate in chrome! GM insisted
the Nomad was affiliated with the top-of-the-line Bel-Air models in
order to attract more attention to it, as if that was really
necessary! GM also had Chevrolet share the body with Pontiac which
marketed their car as the Pontiac Safari. Nomads therefore, like
Bel Air's, came loaded with chrome, carpet and full wheel covers
and a V8 engine option! The new 265 V8 with a modern overhead valve
high compression engine was so good that it remained in production
for decades to come. The stylish production run only lasted for
three years with GM ending this iconic body style in 1957,
primarily due to the vehicles exorbitantly high prices and
consequently low sales and introduced a new body-style in 1958,
ending the production of what has been commonly referred to as the
"Prettiest wagon ever!" Only 8,530 Nomads were built in 1955; 8,103
Nomads were built in 1956 and 6,534 in 1957; their rarity and
strong demand ensures continued appreciation over the years
ahead. This particular example was lovingly and recently customized
and restored by it's most recent southern California owner who has
customized the car over the years with no expense spared to his
personal preference including custom paint and a newly upholstered
custom interior. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully
restored example of an extremely striking custom 1955 Chevrolet
