Completed in March of 1974, 114060-12-106939 was finished in Deep Blue (920) paint over Parchment (165) MB-Tex upholstery, along with a host of factory options and equipment. According to a very rare original Manufacturer's Statement of Origin on file, the 280 was purchased new on March 19, 1974 by Edgar R. Berner - an avid entrepreneur, executive, chairman and director of several major entities, including General Motors. The 280 would remain under the Berner's stewardship until March 2019, while remaining astonishingly original, well-kept and preserved to its current display. Today, with just over 52,000 recorded miles, this particular 280 is without doubt the finest example we have ever seen.

The original Mercedes-Benz DataCard affixed to the interior of the Maintenance Booklet verifies the following optional equipment:

286 - Luggage Nets on Front Seat Backrests
401 - Single Seats
410 - Electric Sliding Sunroof
426 - Automatic Transmission, Floor Shift & Power Steering
466 - Central Locking System
491 - US Version
519 - Radio, Becker Grand Prix, USA
531 - Automatic Antenna
570 - Folding Armrest, Front
580 - Air Conditioning
593 - Heat-Insulating, Tinted Glass
631 - First-Aid Box
669 - Mode of Packing

Paint meter readings throughout all surfaces of the vehicle appear confirm factory paintwork, complemented by original upholstery, trim, lenses, brightwork, rubber seals and all etched glass. The undercarriage and hidden cavities were given a Ziebart coating when new, with an accompanying decal affixed to the rear window. In addition to the aforementioned noted original items, exterior complements include Marchal headlights, Hella fog lamps, painted 14" Fuchs Bundt wheels with Michelin MXV tires, US standard bumpers and reflectors. The cabin displays bright and supple original upholstery throughout the interior, including the loop carpeting, headliner, crack-free dash, plastic and Zebrano woodwork. Even the central ashtray is immaculate and untouched. It's apparent the Mercedes has spent the majority of its life in garage protection. Power amenities are abundant, such as air conditioning, electric sliding sunroof, central locking system, Becker Grand Prix radio with a glovebox mounted cassette deck and automatic antenna.

The front and rear compartments present equally as well with original platings and finishes. The original numbers-matching 2.8-liter inline-six upfront mats to a four-speed, floor-shifted automatic transmission. All original decals, plaques and date stampings remain affixed, as they do in the door jambs and luggage compartment. Much of the auxiliary components are original and the replaced consumable items are authentic Mercedes-Benz equipment, such as the battery, hoses and the hood liner/insulator. A fluid flush and general inspection was performed in early 2019, along with follow-up care commissioned in Spring 2020. Engine compression reads: 150, 140, 145, 140, 150, 145 psi. A very tidy and corrosion-free undercarriage leads to the preserved trunk, containing original grey rubber mats, interior fender liners, matching spare tire assembly, tool roll, jack and emergency accessories.

106939 is complete with original books and Becker warranty card in vinyl folio, original sets of keys, M-B touch-up paint stick, MSO and DataCard.
