Ferrari upholds the standard for Italian excellence, designing and
building cars that are unique in terms of their performance,
innovations, technology, driving pleasure, and design. This
according to Interbrand in their Global Brand report for 2019.
Indeed, most would agree that the name Ferrari carries plenty of
clout in the automotive world. Owners of other cars may be most
envious of this; the car comes with a Heritage Certificate
(Certificato di Identificazione) from the manufacturer stating, "We
hereby certify that the reference numbers of the mechanical units
supplied correspond with those equipping the car when it left the
factory." Think of the import of that! This was issued in 2005 and
no major changes have been made since to this beautiful, low
mileage (@ 36,460 miles) Ferrari. Even so, the fact that a 1979
Ferrari 308 GTS was the vehicle of choice for season one of the TV
hit Magnum PI provided the same boost in fame and prestige as with
other movie and TV cars. This fine example is powered by its
original 2.9L Dual Overhead Cam V8. It is naturally aspirated with
4 Weber 40 DCNF carbs providing the mixture. The engine is capable
of winding past 7000 rpm, and the exhaust note is intoxicating as
with all Ferarris. A fully synchronized 5-speed manual transaxle
with a limited slip differential sends the power to the rear
wheels. Rich black paint along with the red leather interior is an
appropriately sporting yet sophisticated color combination. The 308
GTS is a targa with a removable black vinyl-covered roof panel.
Pininfarina's famed designer Leonardo Fioravanti penned the now
iconic shape. (Leonardo also created the design for the Berlinetta
Boxer, the Dino, and the Daytona.)* The car is built on a tube
frame with a fully independent suspension and four-wheel vented
disc brakes. Weighing in at a lithe 3225 lbs (1463kg)**, the 308
GTS, with its mid-engine configuration is a fine handling car.
There's something else very special with this package. It's truly
delightful to find the original tool kit with the vehicle.
Certainly these items are useful, but their "Italy" stamping, the
container pouches, and excellent condition also add value and
collectibility to what is already a desirable automobile. Inclusion
of the aforementioned Heritage Certificate, the original owner's
manual, and meticulously detailed and presented service records
since 2005 are also clear evidence that the car was in good hands.
It comes equipped with a Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette system with
equalizer for those times when you're standing still. With the
engine off. Ferrari has maintained the integrity of its brand as
well as any company in the world. The mission is always clear when
a new Ferrari is introduced. Make it better and faster. Ferrari.com
says it best. "On this occasion, intensive research and development
focused on exploiting Ferrari's wealth of track-derived engineering
know-how has produced [a car] designed to offer its drivers both
benchmark performance across the board and the most riveting and
rewarding driving experience possible." Maxmotive is proud to offer
this opportunity to experience it for yourself. * Wikipedia **
